  1. Why cut up that dash, when you can cut up the one in my driveway that comes with an entire cowl. I'll make you a 'good deal on it, I just bought that '72 GMC truck from Jaime's relative on the westside.

I dunno what I'm doing doe air cleaners yet, probably some sort of small filtered ones. The stacks are kinnda cool, hand made by someone.

I wanna run the stock gauges, after all they all work. So I gotta find a spot for the oil and temp gauges. They will probably go under the dash, but it can't hang too low or the shifter will hit em and it will be hard to get to the cowl vent handle.

Nice to see a 221 being used... so many of those were tossed in favor of 239's.

Chris you could run the guages down the drivers kick panel in an under dash three hole holder and rotate the gages? I know?

    Lenny,
I thought of that but the brace on the cowl is so close to the cowl side that the mechanical temp gauge tube won't turn tight enough to clear.

  8. Uh? I think so? It was the one in the lower parking lot at Hot Rod-a-Rama on Saturday night parked by the Emperors. Just got back from the bank, now I'm just waiting on them to transfer the funds and get me the cashier check the beginning of next week.

Chris, how about mounting the gauges in a panel above the windshield? Easy to fab, out of eyesight until you want to see them. Just a thought. Looking great! And are those wine bottle corks in your firewall? Awesome!

Welp, got everything just about ****oned up. The carbs were giving me hell and the copper fuel line is not my best...probably try to make a better looking one in the near future. I was gonna try to fire it but had some hose leak problems. The clamps you get with hose kits look good but you can't get em tight enough. That and the battery was low so I have it charging and will pick up some clamps in the AM and try again. Right now I'm heading to the river for a dip, it's 95ish degrees out!!

Chris, You have quite the eye for detail. I was wondering why you did nothing with the firewall ? It would have been simple to prep it and squirt it (or brush it) black . . . . The truck will be a great driver.

I dunno, it's original paint and has really old corks shoved all over in the holes. I got some **** from some other guys about it too :D The truck really needs re-wired, I will probably fill the holes and paint it when I do that. It would be super easy to do, everything sits away from it.

SHE RUNS! I still gotta tune it...it's got a really loud POP at idel so gotta figure out if it's carbs or timing. But she fired right up, I broke the cam in and everything went smooth. No more water leaks either, got some new clamps and she'd dry now :D

I figured out what the loud POP was coming from the drivers side exhaust. Number 8 was not firing at all. It's getting spark, fuel and has compression so I gotta figure out whats wrong. I;m thinking it's something in the distributor cap or a bad wire. Whats funny is it fires right up and sounds good except the occasional BANG so now I'm really excitied to get it running on all 8 and see what she'll do!

Figured it out, I changed the distributor from a 46-48 style cap to a crab with new wires and problem solved. So musta been a bad wire or had a crack or carbon in the cap. Now she puuuuuuuuuurs :D

I got it about all ****oned up, still gotta fine tune it and get exhaust on it. One month til the V8 run, hope she is trouble free for now!!!

Chris, Good to hear that the truck is running on all 8 ! I had a '41 truck that I traded off. It sure was neat the day we got it running. Made arun up and down the parking lot by the barracks. When I turned around you could not see the other end of the parking lot. As the smoke cleared there was a SP sitting there . . . Guess it must have been a little too much diesel in the cylinders. Motor ran great. Drove it around Victorville (on borrowed plates) and it ran great.
I guess trading off so was kind of silly. Sure did run good. Iwill always miss the old '41.

Chris, Just noticed from your photos that the front fenders seem to be in quite good condition. That is something for a vehicle of this age. Maybe it was the Sun go to Church truck ?

I dunno, it is very nice for it's age. It may be looking for a new owner, too ;)
