I am a tool and die maker and I must say that you do work better than most Machinist WITH journeyman papers. Very nice work. Have to watch your fingers when you polish those spokes in the lathe dont you?

    Very tasteful.
The way the spokes blend out into the big fat hub is key - Makes it look like it was cast.

    VERY nicely done, sir.

Don't know what you're gonna do when you finally get this metal working thing figured out. :D

I can tell you one thing though, not being a papered machinist is probably helping you think outside the box on a lot of this stuff.

I know a lot of machinists, but only one that can drop back from the machine down to the files and stone again to finish stuff by hand.

That shift from machine back to hand tools requires a lot more artistic ability than many modern machinists have these days.

Love the looks of the new wheel and love that you made it yourself. Send me your old one. It would look great in my 40 pickup.

Of course you know that by accepted definition that is a Billet steering wheel!

billet is simply a solid piece of material that is shaped into it's finished form by machining. :D

But screw all that - I LOVE the Capri! (used to Race and Rally them in the 70's)
Just looked at your link - unreal, i am truly jealous and humbled (well except for maybe the Chevy motor)

See, not all billet is bad, hand formed aluminum one off billet is very cool, this is a beautiful part. Maybe the wording should be m*** billet is bad. I love the finish on this part too. Thanks for posting it.
