I think I have narrowed the identification of the rear end in my coupe to a 57 Olds. I drove a 57 Olds in high school and do not recall it having left hand lug studs. The one I have now does have left hand studs on the left side only. I recall Pontiac using left hand studs, but I seem to think they were on the wide pattern wheels of the sixties era Pontiac's. Maybe Buick? I remember Buick hubs with left handers, but these were bolts instead of studs. Anyone know about this subject? Also are posi type rear gear sections available for this gear rear? Thanks for any information.
Pics of rear would help. I restuded my 57 Old / Pont rear, but i dont recall it being left and right threaded.
55 and 57 look almost the same. 55 is a lil smaller, look at your yoke it will look flatter and not have halfround recesses for u joint cups. If its 55
Thanks guys, I will check the u bolts as suggested. I will get the car up on jacks at my shop if it ever quites raining here in New Orleans. I do intend to post some photos when I can get under there with a camera.
Sounds like your Olds/Pont axle is 56 and older. Not sure on the left hand threads however, I know MOPAR did that, and some guys confuse the 8 3/4" MOPAR with the early Olds/Pont. Pics would me most helpfull, including a yoke shot. Butch/56sedandelivery.
my 55 olds is left threads. Get some casting numbers if there are any, when you get under it. If it has any, I will see what mine are.
