I have read many other post's and maybe i am missing something but here is my question. I am running buick drums and original hubs on ford spindle's I have the buick brakes also but they do not appear that hey will work. What backing plates can I get that will work has anyone else done this? The brakes I have are off a 61 buick Thanks
no i don't My backing plates are 3 hole units that are pretty much flat and it looks like I need some with a offset maybe
i have a set of 53 to 56 F250 backing plates for mine, they bolt to the spindles and are self energising, there are threads on here about this setup.
You'll need to use '59 or earlier Buick Backing Plates with an aluminum 1/2" thick spacer. You can use later finned Buick drums with this. You can see the spacer between the spindle plate and backing plate. You can use the stock Buick brakes with this setup...Steve
The backing plates you need were used on Buicks from 1958-60. I lucked out and picked up a pair from a guy with a pile of old stock car parts at the swap meet in Thompson, CT.
