Shame, I was out there last weekend for the big *** garage sale with the missus & ran across it. Hundreds of old cars going back to mother earth, what a freakin' waste!
Yes That yard is still there and whats funny is about 3 years ago I noticed a crusher there and they supposedly crushed 100 cars and he told them to leave. So now I Recently heard a rumor that a Guy who buys out old junk yards around Tn offered him 1 MILLION dollars for all of the vehicles in his whole yard and He turned that offer down. Time will tell what happens to all of those cars just sitting there rusting to dust.
I used to run that area regularly about 16 years ago. He had everything from Model A's to 50's models. I stopped on the side of the road one day and wandered through the front row a few minutes. I never could find anybody close by to tell me anything about them. Some were savable back then, but after another 16 years to now, I'd say a lot of them would only be good for parts.
Yes I live in Jamestown a few miles north of yard. It is reported that he has over 3000 old cars. I went in yesterday and took about 200 pic. I can send out a few photos if you email me. An yes the number of cars seems correct. Rodney Robbins
I posted a short thread about this "junk yard" a few years back ***led "Amazing stash of 40's and 50's field find cars! with quite a few pictures, here is a sample. Location is US Hwy 127 near Grimsley Tn.
They’ve put that fence up since I’ve been there. There used to be about 4 rows of cars, maybe 20 or 30 in a row, then behind them were countless cars parked every which way, some stacked two high. State or county probably made them put up the fence.
I went and looked at em on google earth. Would take a while to check all them out. chttps://www.google.com/maps/place/Grimsley,+TN+38556/@36.2827341,-84.9804025,118m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x886763b5826d9a6b:0xfe41bc3591db0fe4!8m2!3d36.2670133!4d-84.9843985?hl=en
Went last year and drove by and around his place just to see if it was still there, talked to him several years ago. He didnt want anyone going back in the yard for insurance reasons etc I guess but seemed like a good ole guy, I wasnt too persistent about it but would have loved to have walked back there, I would love to see a good youtube video of the place and maybe even a interview with him for future reference before its all gone one of these days....... It would be a cool place to tour, even for a fee, if he or at least someone were set up to do that Probably 10 years or so ago, seems I remember a group of HAMBers did a road trip cruise and went by there and stopped for a visit
Or he maybe got tired of car people stopping and walking through his cars, - and put the fence up himself..........
