Been browsing around for a year or so and trying to decide what to go with for my next project. I was really looking for a model A to chop z the whole bit probably would go for an older chevy or dodge cab in the 20's or 30's just for the look. but am having a really hard time finding one for a good price to cut up. but i have ran across a 1950 ford truck cab in good shape for 550. trying to decide which way to go. any suggestions?? what do you think looks better?
Hold out for an older truck. 1936 or earlier, or maybe get a '28-'31 four-door sedan, and make an extra cab pickup. I'm guessing that what you're wanting is a fenderless hi-boy hot rod pickup. For every one of these that use a '40's-'50's cab and come out looking really great, there are another dozen that come out looking like a cobbled up junkyard refugee. Its your money, and your build time. What do you want to be seen driving around in? Later, *****6
Agree with *****6 really hard to get the lines to flow with a 50's cab. 40's work somewhat better, and you can usually still find complete 40's trucks on rural farms. There seems to be a lot of iron showing up at the swap meets lately.
I did the same thing; spent a bunch of money trying to make a fat fender truck cab into a fenderless hot rod. Just couldn't really make it right, and lost out when I sold it.
Thanks for all the info and input..think im going to wait and keep my eye open. I have to agree there is a lot of trucks that just dont turn out like what im looking for. nice truck s****48 looks really good and does that plate in behind the grill say front?? so i need to sell some of the stuff i have taking up space and save the pennies from my pbr cans now haha. And i have to agree with ya 52pig i already had a 52 F-1 that i sold cause i lost interest in pretty quick
thanks I work for the local cable company and im always driving around or when i am in someones house i look in the garage if i have a chance...so far i have found a 1972 de tomaso pantera which i never EVER thought i would see and a 67 rs camero thats been sitting in a garage since about 74. did find a couple model A's but there was no way that guy was going to part with them. before to long i am going to have to transfer offices so i have a different area to look.
i was in Colorado Springs doing plumbing and on a service call i did some work for a guy whom was or still is the pastor of that area's good guy's club's chapter, anyways he was talking about hot rods and such and after i did the required work he showed me the rods out in the 2 buildings in the back. very cool. i also did some work for another member of the good guy's club in Pueblo Co. i changed out a hall way bath sink and kitchen sink he had a 65 or 66 vette conveterible black car with white top very nice people they actaully had me stay over and eat a fish dinner with them AWESOME.
