Been browsing around for a year or so and trying to decide what to go with for my next project. I was really looking for a model A to chop z the whole bit probably would go for an older chevy or dodge cab in the 20's or 30's just for the look. but am having a really hard time finding one for a good price to cut up. but i have ran across a 1950 ford truck cab in good shape for 550. trying to decide which way to go. any suggestions?? what do you think looks better?

Hold out for an older truck. 1936 or earlier, or maybe get a '28-'31 four-door sedan, and make an extra cab pickup.

I'm guessing that what you're wanting is a fenderless hi-boy hot rod pickup. For every one of these that use a '40's-'50's cab and come out looking really great, there are another dozen that come out looking like a cobbled up junkyard refugee.

Its your money, and your build time. What do you want to be seen driving around in?

    Later, *****6

Agree with *****6 really hard to get the lines to flow with a 50's cab. 40's work somewhat better, and you can usually still find complete 40's trucks on rural farms. There seems to be a lot of iron showing up at the swap meets lately.

  4. I did the same thing; spent a bunch of money trying to make a fat fender truck cab into a fenderless hot rod. Just couldn't really make it right, and lost out when I sold it.
