I picked up this 39 sedan last weekend. When back home I realized one tire was loosing air, had the wheel off for changing the tube and took a closer look at the old cracked tires. They read "Highway-LINCOLN-Tire Co." Could it be that these tires are OEM Lincoln? Also the paint is still original and the leather seats still seem to have the original seat covers on them. Now the speedo is reading some 36k miles, how are chances that this is the real mileage? I want to pull the complete drive train and front axle for another project and sell rest to somebody who wants to build a cool custom with a more modern drive train.
you dont REALLY want to canabilize a cl***ic that solid and complete do you? ill try to forget i read this thread.....
considering 36k was about the rebuild point for the V12 in those (ran HOT with 2 siamesed exhaust pulses running on each side as opposed to one on the V8) I wouldn't be hugely surprised to find that someone just put it in storage instead of paying to have it rebuilt. the coupes are just pure *** on wheels. The automotive version of marylin monroe. ***y, runs hot and didn't last very long
Lincoln was one of the few suppliers of whitewall tires after they became obsolete in the '60s - they had no ties with FoMoCo.
I wouldn't be suprised if that was the real milage. Keep in mind in the late 30's,40's,50's people didn't hit the highways like they do today. I have to disagree with jetmek though. The sedans are and never will be anywhere near as popular as the coupes. Feel free to cut that baby up. I'm doing a 37 Sedan into a 2 door. Have at it. It'll make a kool cruiser! James
