Here's my first-ever attempt at Scallops. Just got started this past weekend.
The inspiration for the design comes from Ed Roth's "Little Jewel".
The inspiration to get off my ass and actually do it came from hearing about Larry Watson's passing.
I will always remember watching Watson stripe at the Rat Fink Reunion way back when Roth was alive and in attendence. It was in the parking lot at the Mooneyes shop (I will post those pictures as soon as I can find them).
In the meantime, here are the pics of my Hot Rod...

I was just diagnosed with Cancer back in March and i've met many people in that short of time that are battling for their lives! Please be pro-active about your health! Check your balls...or find a hot chick to do it for you!

In high school in the 50's, I flamed and scalloped cars in my parents' driveway with spraycans and newspaper masking ala' Larry.

Much later, I attended the '64 Mickey Thompson show at the Great Western in LA. By then Watson had on moved beyond panel painting and seaweed flames. That show was filled with pearl/flake-top late models, mostly large GM models, that he had done. Two years later when I attended the same show, he had introduced lace painting. So I beat it back to Kansas City and lowered, shaved and painted these brand new cars from '65-69. Same set of Skylark wires on all three cars.

Larry was the creator of this style which eventually took on a life of its own. Years later, a bowdlerized version of the look became known as "lowriders" but they weren't weren't called that in the mid-60's nor were they as garish as they later became.

This was my first attempt at flames and it was heavily inspired by the Watson style.
