I have a 1959 f100 that im parting/s****ing and it has the original rearend in it. is it worth keeping and using on the next project and what rear end would it be. thanks
It should have an early "roundback" 9" rear in it. Definanatly keep it, if nothing else they are good swap material.
It's a bolt in swap to replace the dana 44 in a F1 or F100. Should be 61.25 in. WMS to WMS and if you don' need it, you could sell it to some one with the earlier year trucks. Keep all the shock mounts and hardware too. The dana 44 is a smaller diameter tube and that stuff won't fit when you swap. Conor
What everyone else has said is true...probably....but only IF it is a 9" Ford. Even though the 9" was introduced for 1957, if your '59 truck was originally ordered with limited slip/traction control etc....it would have been built with a Dana 44. This holds true into the early '60s. The easy way to tell is to look at the back of the housing. If it has a separate cover, it's a Dana 44...if there is no cover, it's a 9" Ford. The Dana 44 has some value, being a limited slip axle (and fairly tough to boot), but probably more like $100. The early 9" housings do go for $300 or more, usually. I picked up a complete Dana 44 limited-slip axle plus a later (not-roundback) 9" housing/axles, both for F-100s, for $150 about 1 1/2 years ago, if that helps you to judge prices.
Post a pic and the audience will tell you exactly what it is. A complete diff like that be it 9 inch or dana is worth keeping.
i was gunna swap out the rear diff out of my 53 f100 and find one with a smaller bolt pattern does any one know what will fit?
