How many of you have been driving, either locally or while out of town, and p***ed a nice ride and chased it down just for a closer look. I have done 180's many times just to check out what I thought might be a interesting ride tucked away behind a fence or building. We were once returning from Florida with a friend and her children following in another vehicle. About 6 am and around 130 miles into our trip we come over a rise and low and behold on the right side of the road was a 51/52/53 Chevy Panel Truck project. Before I could even take a breath Mrs. Trucked Up firmly said to not even think about stopping this early and with her friend following. About six months later we flew back to Panama City Beach. You better believe the first thing I done was to get in the car and cover that 130 miles to see if the Panel was still there. It was, what was left of it. Rust had gotten the best of it but for that six months I could only think about what a sweet project I might of p***ed up. Mrs. Trucked Up is always trying to divert my attention from possible new additions to the Chevy Truck family we have. Fourteen and counting.
I probably have but when I was driving my 48 Plymouth down Highway 1 in Ca. a truck kept following me. When I pulled over to let him p*** he would pull behind me. When I finally stopped at a Cafe he stopped with me and said he would rather look at my rod than the scenery on the Ca. coast. He was visiting from Europe and I have never had a better compliment.
Had one follow me into the driveway (I live on a farm). He was talking to my Glock for the first minute of the conversation. After he explained he just wanted a better look, all was good, but I kept smelling poo.
I have done it but at that time I worked as an auto parts driver so I was the reason your car wasnt finished at the repair shop and you had to wait an extra day. I still dont feel to bad and met alot of nice car people. Most likely pissed off just as many regular people waiting for there car as I met new car guys.
I have done it my self. i re one time i did a 180 to see a old car that looked cool but as I got closer it turned in to a contest of speed. At around the 120 mark I had all most cought the car but was intervined by a ny state trooper. I dont know how fast my car was going to go to catch the other one but i sure know how long it took to stop it. Trooper was not inpressed with us.
With my old dad, a retired RCMP officer, back in the 60's. I would be riding with him, when he saw an old car or a rod, he would radio in and get the guys address from the tag number. Then we would either drive over and visit or look the guy up after hours.. I'm pretty sure he never wrote guys up for modifications.... speeding yes, stupid yes, hot rodding no... A life long car nut....
Not really a chase so much as a wait. Saw a pro-street style 57 apache go by me the other way one day. Afew days later I saw it in my mirror a full light behind. I literally sat at the green light waiting for it. Then followed it into the local park / cruise site for a better look.
or how about when someone wants to slow down in front of you just to look at your ride when you p***, or when someone paces along side of you not leaving any room for you to change lanes. or when the guy checking out your ride isn't paying attention and comes into your lane narrowly missing your car? i hate gawkers
Yep, they dont understand my model t pickup cant quite nudge their suburban back into his lane. Plus they always seem to do this where there is no break down lane to escape.
Yea I've been on the other end of this deal also. Have missed exits because of the car beside me would speed up and slow down just to get a look see or take a picture and I couldn't get off the highway. Not so bad as the enjoyment and admiration of strangers is one of the most rewarding thing I experience.
happens to me all the time. follow on my *** for a few miles then come ripping past me looking at my ride, not the road!!
I once chased a young lady across town because her plate was 23T....she thought I was following her because she was a 38C.
So I'm driving my channeled '32 5 window down a country Arkansas road and p*** a channeled '32 roadster also sporting gray primer, you know we both pulled over.
I do it all the time. Shoot I plan trips taking the scenic tours, take extra paper, pens to leave notes. Sometimes I just go driving or take a wk end trips to look at new places but I have done 180's almost to chase something down, especially when its old on the trailer and it looks like its headed to crusher . I"ve bought a parts car or two that way ,chase them down, gave them the money instead of metal recycler. It was easy for them since it was already on the trailer.
