^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^This black beauty just above belongs to my dear ol friend Bob Smith. He is about the best old hot rodder you could ever meet. His son Bob and buddy Dan are in the photo also. They hail from Pawnee City Nebraska, home of Larry the Cable guy. This black beauty has won a Street Rodder TOP TEN pick also. Havent heard how it ran yet. Go Bob#2 and Bob#3!
That guy drove that heap all the way from Massachusetts. Glad to see he made it! Thanks for the great pics Big Mac!
G,day BigMac,thanks for the photos, with all your favourites maybe you should use my signature. LOL......
That must be "Nebraska Bob"! We met him at the Nugget. Great guy. I didn't know that was his car. That car is a beauty. Hopefully I'll get back out there this week and get some more pics. Like I said, it was fun taking pictures for a few hours, then you are just so busy enjoying everything that the camera just gets forgotten. There were TONS of things I wish I'd have taken pictures of. I met the couple that drove their old ford from Mass. (Matt and Becky?)... BTW, Matt, she's a keeper. Any girl that would take that journey for hot rods is tops. Met the Rolling Bones guys, ran into Billy Gibbons out there (ZZ Top played Friday night in Wendover btw), met a bunch of HAMBers that I've never met in person, and just had a real cool time, as always. I've got a few video's I'll post when I get them downloaded.
Awesome pictures!!! Thanks for posting. As long as I can remember I've wanted to go to bonneville but have yet to make it past the mississippi.
I forgot to mention how we finished off our trip. I have to set the stage a little here: Hundreds of miles of pure white, flat salt. No bushes, no trees, no color at all, just WHITE. You can imagine how bright and striking a red '55 chevy would look in that setting. You would think you couldn't miss it, right? Well, some drunken moron did the impossible. While my dad's '55 was PARKED, he hit it- WITH A SCOOTER!. He was "backing up" (keep in mind this was one of those little motorized scooters) and backed right into the passenger door of the '55. He had this "really awesome" home made exhaust pipe sticking out the back that dug about a 4-inch scar into the door. So drunk he could barely stand, and it was 10am. Luckily he's from salt lake, so I can follow up and make sure it's fixed. Man, what an idiot.
Excellent coverage, thanks for sharing. Every thread about Bonneville just makes me want to go even more. At 65 I've only got about another 50 years to make it. Frank
Fantastic pictures. Can't believe some drunk on a scooter ran into your dad's car. Good luck on getting that fixed. Some day I hope to make out there. Thanks a bunch for sharing. Later, Dick
Thanks for the pictures! Wife and I are going next year, it's our 20th anniversary. It is her idea to go to Bonneville to celebrate. See why i love her?
thanks for sharing, backed out of going at the last minute when my modified was not completed in time. Next year I will be back on the salt again
I've got a ton of new "favorites" ( ) to post. I need to load and resize them. Side note... MAC... I'm sorry I didn't call you. I left my phone, with your number, in Salt Lake. I did look for your car but I see you didn't take it out there. I saw your dad's 55. It's very nice. It might have made it into my favorites. Hahaha. More to come in a little bit. Be patient with me, fellas. It's been a long and hot weekend.
I happened to be in Salt Lake for business. But I went over on Sat. for my first time! quite the experience. oh and every kid needs one of these!
If anyone spots a red Ford Van with a camera platform on top and a guy with a video camera say "hey" to Bonneville Bill from Chris Pile in Wichita!
Drunk tourists have quite a history of wrecking good cars on the salt. It was in the mid '70's that one ran into the legendary Sadd/Teague/Bentley roadster as it was being pushed down the return road. Thank you for sharing the great pics & I'm really sorry about your car.
