Hey these are pretty of the shelf cool cars, the famous virgil exner forward look with buck rogers styling!!! i'm just about to start rebuilding one for mate of mine here in aussie land! its a right hand drive fordoor polara sedan, we will me making a mild custom out of it nothing major just some mild dechroming and some sued paint! yee ha oh im looking for a pair of back doors to suit too!
I have one of these. it is really good shape. the only major rot is up around the headlights. it is completely all original, runs and drives. it is however a 4 door though. it still looks pretty cool with a little PHOTOSHOP work. it is also for sale.
I go to that yard all the time I recognize that Matador. It is a pretty good yard has some great stuff.
A pink cross-ram 2 door hardtop, that's pretty sweet. For some reason, '60 Dodges are hugely popular in Europe.
The Pioneer is the Dodge Dart version of the 1960 Dodge Line. the dart was a bit smaller and lighter than the Full sized Dodge, and had longer and slightly different shaped rear fins. It was available in Seneca, Pioneer, and Phenix trim levels. The full sized Dodge was available as the Matador, and the Polara. The names carried over to the 61 model year and perhaps 62. The 60 was the first year of Unibody for both the Dart and the Dodge. Up hear in the rust belt, you could hear and nearly watch them rust. Rust prone areas were top of the headlamps, top of the rear wheel wells, dog leg in front of the rear wheel wells, bottom of the doors, and the front rear spring perches. Cars were also torsion bar front suspension. So before dragging anything out of the junk yard, especially if it has been sitting in contact withthe ground, check the underside carefully before plunking down any dollars. The full sized cars were sold in fairly low numbers, as the Dart was nearly the same size could be had with the same engine options and body styles, and interior trim, and was less expensive. So not many were produced, and not many survived. And no one makes aftermarket trim stuff. Don't think you would find much in the line of rubber parts, dashboard pieces, interior and exterior trim. They are certainly unique looking vehicles and most would say better looking than the 61 and 62 follow ups. Mechanically they ran the gammut of engines from slant 6 in the darts to cross ram 361 and 383 in the Full sized cars. Transmissions were column shifted 3 speeds or push button Torqueflites. with open drive lines. only wierd deal is E brake on the trans out put flange. They are BIG CARS and pretty heavy. Rear springs were also weak, effecting a tail dragger stance if left to their own devices. Would probably be the only one in your zip code if you were to put it back on the road.
It's tough to get a group shot but here's a few outside. There are photos of most of them in my H.A.M.B. album...
I just saw this one in Ohio last week. Slant six, radio delete, etc. The only thing it did have was an automatic and a heater. What really caught my eye were the "humps" stamped in the roof. Don't think I've ever noticed those before... Seneca Dart
Not sure about '60 Dodge Police cars but they most likely did. I know they used "61 Dodge's for sure....
Just saw a real nice 4 door one of those today at a car show. All original. Working on buying a 4door Pioneer. How much are the 4 doors worth if it was all there but needing some rust repair like floorboards and a bit in the rear doglegs? Otherwise pretty good for just sitting around
I once saw a '61 Seneca that was supposedly a factory 413 Long Ram car. It also had a 4-spd which I doubt was orignal. It was sick.
