eBay. I'd help you with your rego, too...if I knew what it was. Yes, you can register your Caddy as an Antique in Texas using original 1960 plates. Bring all the standard stuff: old registration, title, Texas year-of-manufacture plates, proof of insurance, money. Simple.

make sure the plates you get are in excelent shape or they will not let you use them. I know someone who restored their plates and was told they could not use them because the where repainted.

I went to the Autorama back in Nov 09 in Houston and there was a guy who had box after box of decent old TX plates. I have his card at my house somewhere and can post up his info when I find it

This guy has some good info and decent plates. $145 is about the going rate that I saw from the guy at the Autorama also...

He will let you return his tags within 30 days if the TX DMV rejects them which is nice. I am thinking that it depends on the local tag office on whether or not they accept a repaint.

    from the site above

USE OR SUITABILITY: If your plate pair is rejected by a Texas VTR regional office for registration on your antique or classic car because of condition, you may return the plates within 30 days to obtain a refund. To qualify for this refund, the plates purchased must be a pair of unissued or professional repaint; this guarantee doesn't cover plates described as "used". See below for conditions of returns. I make no other guarantee as to your intended use.

I found a nice set of 1960 plates on craigslist for cheap. They're out there...

If you can't get the plates in time then just register it on the antique plates that they can issue at the DMV. No inspection which is great and you will not have to register it again for a few years and then you can swap to your period plates at that time. Of course you can only use the car for parades and special events then.;):D

You can do the above. Then, when you find a set of YOM plates, you can go to the DMV and change the registration from the antique plates to the YOM plates.

Only one catch: The DMV cannot refund the money you paid to purchase the antique plate, you need to take all your paperwork to the nearest TXDOT office to get your refund. The DMV will tell you where it is.

Makes no sense, but that's how it works.

    :)
