I caught part of it last night. A '61 fordoor Chevy with a 409 and 4 speed, unrestored, went for $42,000. Interesting. What's up with those employees that get up in your face and goad you when you're considering a bid? In the carnival they're known as "shills". That would irritate the shit out of me. I'll probably never have to worry about it though. I may be a seller someday but a buyer, not.

  2. No, but I'd bet one of my customers is (pissed, that is)--he sold his green 435 coupe for a tick over $100k just this past summer...an I thought he was nuts turning down $75 two years ago:eek:

Big block mid-year Corvettes are the Deuce 3-windows of the Corvette world......they will only go up .

    what a bunch of whiners!

BJ didn't invent collector car auctions, they've been going on for years, and it's always been the same, some go incredibly high, some dirt cheap, that's the name of the auction game folks! it's just that you just started paying attention.;)

really, how many of us are, or have EVER been in the market for fully restored muscle cars, etc?

hell, if all the cars went cheap, they would end up in the hands of people like US! the hobby has its ups and downs, it's rich players and those who scrape by. all the guys with stacks of cash aren't rich assholes, my boss happens to be down there right now, he bought 5 or 6 cars last year, and he's a down to earth guy, who knows all his many employees by name, lets me use the company equipment for my own uses(BUILDING cars).

I wonder if the No reserve thing is almost forced on poeple. I've heard that they have so many cars submitted for Auction that they pick and choose what they are going to run over the blocks. They probably reject the reserve cars because of the "SHOW"

At least I would not put it past them. It seems they really push the fact that all the cars are NO RESERVE.

  6. These prices are crazy....just seen a 34 Ford Cabriolet with SBC & Vintage Air bring 110K , with it costing the buyer 9K to buy it !! ...

I know where I'm takin' my non-HAMB-type Camaro next Jan.:D

  7. Yes, they do PERSUEDE you to sell at no reserve. That is why lots of folks buy back their cars at hefty buyers and sellers commisions.

I have several good customers there right now, they go for the show and not to buy. If they are buying, they do it earlier in the week at Silver or Kruse's auctions.

Also, its who you know in getting on TV. There is a pecking order and an old boys club.

And yes, despite what I said I have it on the idiot box,DOH!

I'm glad somebody else agrees with me. I like having cars available at a reasonable price. They're toys, not investments!

It's funny, I've been haunting Corvair sites lately (the purists hate me) and some of those guys obsess about how little their cars are worth (especially restorations) constantly! I'd be greatful. They've got really good aftermarket support and an affordable entry level vehicle to enjoy - the guys that are in it to resell and make a killing aren't really car guys, they're just beancounters screwing with my hobby.

Brock Yates is a FAG along with the rest of the announcers there. These are supposed to be car guys?? My grandparents could have done a better job & one is deaf & one is blind.

The jackass that bought that olds is just another moneygrubber. Last night, he bought some large, long manifold runner chrysler, then he bought an older coupe of some sort (missed that 'un), then he bought a Hemi Cuda, then he bought that olds. Thing that pisses me off is that he has been decked out in all this Ferrari crap, looking for all the world like a five-year-old, then he waits until a car passes a certain amount, then, when he bids, he begins dancing around in front of the audience! He just wants to throw away his money, for some "Museum" that's gonna open up in Gateway, Colo. I don't think he's there for the cars (case in point, when the olds passed the $2m mark, i believe it was, he began clawing at the doorhandle to sit down in the car, like he owned it. In doing so, he placed another bid by smacking his hand on the side of the door! Whatta pig! He goaded the other bidder, acted badass, what a schmuck.)
Anyway, I wish I had that kinda money.

Yeah, it makes you wonder why he's sportin all that Ferrari stuff and buying all the old American iron. I like watching the show but it gets all screwed up when two rich guys get in a pissin match and inflate the prices. Hopefully it just causes a blip in the real world. Anybody see that orange 50 Vicky? It looked like and old body wrapped around a NOPI show Honda! No thanks.
