My rod normally runs pretty cool (185-200) but in recent road trips the temp is staying right at 210 on the highway. mid to high 90 outside temps .
I have an Aluminum radiator, 185 thermo, and a 17" elec cooling fan. No mech fan. I have the thermo relay set for the fan to kick on at 195 but it is staying on constanly and running 210.

    What thermostat should I run? 185 ,195?
Also, I don not have a fan shroud.

I dealt with this too...I have a 65 Nova with a 383 stuffed in there. Aluminum radiator and seperate trans cooler. Now I have a mecha 16" fan. If I sat at a light for more than one round I would be up in the 230 range. I made my own fibergl*** fan shroud, now I could sit at the light for quite some time, maybe 5 ligghts before it starts approaching 220...I also am not running any thermostat. Either way the engine is going to get to operating temp quickly.

While cruising now with teh added fan shroud i never get over 180, in fact if its night out or below 80 degrees out it runs at about 170.

I cannot find the link but someone did a nice tech post here using felt and two pieces of wood to make a fibergl*** shroud. Thats what I did and it it s piece of cake. If you need more info let me know.

someone posted home made aluminum shrouds on here using baking pans a few weeks ago. Can't find it now.
My issue is I don't have room for a regular fan (wish I did) IM running soley off the electric.
I have driven the car 35-40 miles before the temop would kick on the electric. But with the temps we are seeing now it kicks on sonner and runs hotter.
