I have been looking for a nice C10 and I finally found one in Moreno Valley. The guy was asking $3500 and I talked him down to $2800. I`m thinking I got a good deal untill I went to the DMV. THe dude tells me that he had applied for a lost ***le and had not recieved it yet. I go to the DMV to see what I can do with the truck and SURPRISE!!! He`s not the registered owner. Now I can`t get him on the phone to find out who is. So I think I just took a $2800 shot in the a#$. Any sugestions?? Does anyone regcognize this truck from the LA area?? Viva
... that's why it sounded so good- sorry it happened to you! Give the police the "seller's" info and hope for the best.
Sounds like that could be true. If it is contact the authorities and let them know what's up before they begin to consider you the bad guy.
That truck looks familiar, why would you buy it without seeing the ***le???? Live and learn, it could have been alot more. by the way that truck looks sweet for 2800.
I hate to hear that. I've walked away from a few deals because the paperwork wasn't right, I just felt safer that way, I work too damn hard for my money to just give it away. I would get ahold of the police and have them run it and find out for sure.
There are many possible explanations. Maybe the truth is not as bad as all that. Suggest that you first attempt to contact the registered owner. If that does not work, then perhaps the police. But personally I would never initiate contact with the poe-lese unless I first spoke with an attorney. At the very least, that will help protect you in case the guy you bought it from is indeed a bad guy whose reaction to being approached by the cops will be to claim total ignorance or to somehow implicate you. If that happens, it could become your word against his, which could mean bye-bye to both the money and the truck.
If it was stolen the DMV would have slapped the cuffs on you and ******ed you in the back for a little "interview". It's probably not hot but you will probably have to do the leg work or get a bonded ***le. You can probably get a temporary tag until you get it worked out. Your probably not out the money.
very true dmv would of had the sheriff there in a heart beat..guy probably was telling the truth about an application for the lost ***le i bet there's money owed on it that why he probably didnt finish the procces..
grab a auto trader and look in the back of it there are ***le companys that can get you a new ***le for a couple bucks pay for one than go to a diffrent dmv..get it registerd than track down the sc&*( bag and beat the 2800 outta him ....i hate people who intentionally screw people over ...good luck
prewarcars4me<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_5546842", true); </SCRIPT> Member why do you say that he already went to dmv if it was stolen he would be in jail... obviousley its not stolen. oh and where is the bill of sale that has to have the guys info on it you bought it from ...track him down or go back to his house were you picked it up??
Did you get a bill of sale? Did you take a witness with you? Does the vehicle have proper vin tags? Does the vehicle come up as stolen? If the vehicle does not come up as stolen under the Vin number that is on the vehicle, you have a chance. Did You get the name of the previous owner? Did you get a set of keys? Does the ignition look like its been belted out of it. I would go to the DMV, a different one and ask them to do a ***le or a vin search on the numbers, tell them that you are looking at a car that you like but you would like to be sure it is clean, tell them the guy applied for a ***le and wants a deposit on it or something to get the info out of them. See if they will run it multi state, she could be from any where.
Where the hell did you buy it from him at in a walmart parking lot,a house or business, you didn"t fall for the lets meet somewhere and exchange did you,did you even get a bill of sale from this guy,Rule when it comes to buying any vehicle,no ***le no damn money at least you are just out $2800 you could have pulled this dumb*** move and lost alot more.
I can't believe no one mentioned this. He is ***le jumping. He never put the truck in his name because he did not want to pay the sales tax. He probably has the signed ***le from the previous owner. I doubt the truck is stolen. I think it's more shenagins with the seller who is trying to pull off same ****. i.e ***le jumping.
A while back I bought an OT vehicle from a private seller. She still owed money on it. I was a little green behind the ears and I just signed a bill of sale and handed her cash. Her stated intent was to go pay off the loan and get the ***le. I walk away and drive off in the vehicle and think, "Wait.....wtf did I just do????" Thank GOD she was honest because I could have gotten royally screwed. She could have just taken that cash and ran and that car would have gotten repo'd right out from under me. She mailed me the ***le 2 weeks later and I kissed that damn thing. That's a lesson learned on my part.
I have been through this before, all you have to do is show proof to the dmv that you tried to reach the original owner. show proof that the letter was sent and after a week or two go back to the dmv and you should be golden. As long as its not stolen.
wow really? i hope it works out for you? but i would never buy anything if nothing is in order! **** that! good luck!
Not a big deal, Go to the DMV and apply for a lost ***le. Have your bill of sale in hand and it'll work out. You may have to go to court and probably have to have the VIN verified, a weight certificate etc. Or the best is to find out who its ***led to and go that route. IT ****s but you are going to have to remedy it anyways if you ever want to sell, register, or insure it. IT's a cool truck probably worth it and yes the guys a big bag of Douche for doing that. Stick it out it's worth it. If it was stolen you would have already lost possesion of it. Tim
Sounds like you got a ***** so big from the sight of that truck all the blood rushed from your brain....Papers first,,,Hope it works out!!!
***uming its not really stolen....you've just got alot more leg work to do. a ***le company will be well worth your time and money.
Well the truck was last registered in `07 with the plates that are on it. There are like $500 in back fees because it was never "Non-Oped" so I`m guessing that`s why he never registered it. THe DMV wouldn`t give me the last registered owners name so I have left a few messages with the seller. Hell he only lives an hour or so away so a trip back to his place won`t be hard to do. I`m gonna give the guy a chance and see how it turns out. If I don`t get a call back by this weekend then a short litle road trip will be in order. Viva
