My first post on the new HAMB and it's o/t. My dad is getting a new truck (bonus to me- he's giving me his 98' f-150!!) , anyway, he's looking at a quad cab hemi dodge, and figured I'd see if anyone here has one or has heard much about them.
A guy I work with bought a new HEMI 4 door truck, red and nice. He loves the truck BUT HATES the mileage..... It's about 14 MPG on the highway and 8 to 10 around town. .
[I had one for 2 months as a loaner while my Avalanche was getting fixed. If ya like work trucks, thats what it is. Too much power for the tires they put on em, horrible gas miledge, and not very comfortable. But if ya like to smoke em off, it's the truck for you....Fido
My former boss bought one of those Ram SRT/10 trucks. Faster than the Hemi it is. Six speed, big tires (on gay 22 in. wheels), HUGE brakes, 500 hp and more torque than a dump truck. Forget the hemi, buy the Viper truck.
Thanks. Like I said, it's my dad, not me. I think the mpg on the hemi was 14 city- 18 highway or something. The viper one's cool, but more than he wants to spend. I'll just be happy to get his old truck.
I used to work for Sport Truck magazine a few years ago and tested all the best from everyone from Chevy's to Ford Lightnings and my Hemi Quad Ram blows them all away- especially for the price. I was NEVER a Mopar person, but it's the best new car I ever owned. Towed my Model A and a ton of extra parts on a 22 ft. trailer like nothing was back there 500 miles. Didn't even breath hard on the steep grades. He won't be disappointed. And mileage- I had a ****py PT Loser for 3 years that only got 17-18mpg! Do you think I care about mileage when I feel the power of a Hemi under my foot? Hell no!
I have a 2003 standard cab, short box 2wd. I really like it. I've had one problem, the composite intake manifold developed a hairline crack and had to be replaced. Otherwise, it's got 20,000 miles, and it is holding up very, very well. I get an average of 14-15mpg, with a mix of intown and highway driving. --Casey
I think you'll find that the city-driving numbers that people are posting here are more realistic- the "city" part of the EPA drive cycle is pretty kind compared to how most people drive on a daily basis, and everybody I know with a Hemi regularly gets under 14 mpg. That said, if he's getting a Quad 4x4, he's going to be disappointed with anything less than the Hemi, especially if he tows. They feel underpowered with the 4.7L, and shift out of OD on most hills
Have the new 5.7l in a Chrysler 300c. It gets 15mpg around town and in rush hour, and 25mpg on the highway. It beats the living **** out of nearly any car thrown at it due to the torque. For a modern daily driver, its a blast. Keep in mind the 5.7l hemi in the new Magnum/300c has MDS cylinder deactivation to save gas, unlike the trucks.
