I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that had a parts car or made back windows for 1940 plymouth coupes? My interior part of the rear window is narsty with rot. Any ideas? It is kind of a pain to fabricate that, especially with so much missing to make my pattern. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would bet that the sedan gl*** is the same, so you should be able to cut the surround out of a sedan to weld into your coupe. That'll be a lot easier to find than a coupe to cut apart. There's a yard up here with 2 sedans in it, but I don't know what the guy would charge to cut the roof up.

Find someone with a Hollander interchange and check to see if the gl*** is the same so you'll know if the sedan donor piece will work. That's what I'd do.

they crushed all the sedans and pretty much everything when s**** was at its peak a year back so my yard is gone. It really wouldnt be cutting up the roof. What i need is the interior part that the frame screws to and the headliner attaches to. It has nothing to do with the outside of the roof, but would you be able to give me a number or someone up there that would be able to cut it up for me?

Not to throw in a monkey wrench, but in '37 and '38, the sedans had a two-piece rear window, and the coupes had a larger one piece window. I don't know if it was standardized on the '40's.

If it's the same as a 41 Dodge 3w coupe, I have one that I'm fairly positive I will never need. PM me if it is.

Can you post a picture of it? If it's just the interior garnish molding, I'm sure I can get you one from a Plymouth.

I will post some pictures tonight of what is left and maybe some measurements. I am sure that they are close to the same as a '41. I know for a fact that not a whole lot changed between the two years. I know once I get ready to blast the interior it will be gone. Thanks for the great replies so far. I will update soon!

and I am not looking for the molding I am looking for the actual sheet metal for the back window "inner lip" that the molding screws to. Just to clear things up :)

here are some pics. keep in mind most of this stuff is paper thin and I can actually snap it off as if it were a saltine cracker. Its really difficult to get any piece off to make a pattern.

the measurements are roughly 35" wide and roughly 12" tall. I will try to exact measurements and maybe measure the rear window for this measurement. Is there any way that any of you can measure your sedans that you are s****ping out?

Anyone else? The rear gl*** for my coupe is flat gl***, not curved. Still looking for a replacement. Thanks!

Do you have the gl*** out of the window? I don't think it's flat. Maybe looks flat, but it's almost got to have some curve to it. Mine did in my '41 coupe, and that is supposed to be the same body.

Also, you would have to cut up the roof on a donor car to get this piece out. Unless I'm missing something, sure doesn't look like it's bolted or riveted in there.

You would have to cut around the back window on the inside, not damaging the exterior of the vehicle. You are correct, it is not riveted in, it is spot welded in. I will pull the gl*** to make sure, but I am fairly certain its flat gl*** (maybe it is flat gl***, but the weatherstrip compensates??). I will check when I get out of work today to see whats going on with it. You are correct they are supposed to have the same body.

I have the gl*** laying around in the garage and its flat. I think you're right with regards to the rubber compensating the slight rounding in the profile. The lowest part above the trunk bulges slightly on mine, nothing drastic. There you go, the gl*** is flat!

good deal. Thanks farmer12. As you can see I am prepping to start work on the plymouth. I am kind of ready to get back into it, especially after looking at it in the garage just collecting dust.

I think I can go ahead and adjust whatever I get, even if it is from a sedan with curved gl***, but would prefer finding a coupe or something similar. I know from measurements from another HAMB'er that the sedan rear window is a little smaller than a coupe. I would prefer not to be charged $75 in shipping if that can be prevented... I won't specify, but I feel that I was being taken advantage on here... Any OTHER help is greatly appreciated!

Well I do have to add pictures, but this is the thread that I started for it. I have to start pulling pictures off of my photobucket again. Here is the thread though:

Once I get to the point on this truck where I can't do anymore bodywork and stuff on it I will go ahead and start on the plymouth again.
