Yeah, the salt is very white, and it covers up the dirty white parts of the Fairlane. I have a feeling that I will have a very rusty car soon(rustier than it is). The salt looks dry, but that shit is wet, and very sticky. Like the ground looks dry, it is sunny and warm, but the salt is a wet mess. Very hard to explain. It sticks to the cars like snow. I will get a few pics tomorrow. There are piles of salt all over town. Kind of like snow that sticks to cars.

The salt stings in cut up abused hands just like table salt. When the wind blows hard it tastes salty. It is salt, not just something that looks like it. If I had a little olive oil, some fish, and a few spices I would be golden.

I cant find the picture, so I will get one tomorrow, but there is a pickup truck that pulls a device that looks like a big pallet. It grooms the salt like the thing they drag a baseball field with.

Whatever you do make sure you attend the drivers meeting at the start line tomorrow, Saturday, morning. After the meeting you will be allowed to drive your car down the long course as fast as dare go being safe of course. One of my favorite parts of the week.

You may not have to shave to hang out with your friends, however, in order to come home to me you will need a new razor. You look like you are having a blast!! Live it up you of all people deserve it. Love you

Clean shirts? Bonneville? Just buy a new t-shirt........thanks for the pix and your post on your trip.......reminds me of the first time that we went to the "great white dyno" in the 34' hotrod and this is the first year that I'm missing our trip to the salt.......with a 1 year old boy and a job "situation" this year would have been kind of tough.......keep the pix coming & don't forget to eat at the "mexican" place inside the stateline casino........it will be the best food you will eat for under five bucks.

It is called "Trino's".......it is the best flippin' food that you will eat there, besides the Salt Flats Cafe @ the truck stop before the bend in the road.

Denise....I had planned on going again this year but it fell through. Some of my Cincy buds will be getting there soon. Can you do this with your car even if you're NOT part of a team or pit crew???? Thanks--Matt

I should start a new thread, but oh well. I was installing the discs on the wheels of Ed's car. The fronts were hand/homemade. I was looking at the rear as I was putting it on, they only go one way. I saw a real faint odd looking "moon' stamp. I asked Ed how long he had had the discs, He told me the story of going to the 1960 drag nationals in Detroit, and thoose were the same discs he had on the rear engine dragster he ran in 1960.

I have been turning my camera on video to record some of the conversations. This is not like reading about Hot Rod history, I am living it with a Bonneville record holder.

I had been having a hard time with life before this trip. Life has been good to me, but I have not been very happy. This has been like fucking Christmas, ice cream, and birthday parties every minute. I do not want to leave...

We were in impound at 12:05 pm. The car ran 152mph, the record was 142mph, held by the same car. I should really start a new thread, "Went to Bonneville as a spectator, and crewed on a Record holding team". We were about the 12th car to go out in our lane. It was a soft run, the car has much more in it. Ed just wanted to make sure everything was good.

As soon as the car left the line, Bill Murphy and I were headed out to pick up the car, so no getting to watch. Running out the return road to tow the car back we are listening to the 1610am radio, they call out my name as a crew member on the team, George Poteet is running on the track parallel to us, he pulls the shute at 272mph running a tune up pass. I can't lie, I had a few tears in my eyes.

I have to be at the track at 5:45am. I only had a room through tonight. I have all my stuff packed in the Fairlane. I might be sleeping at the bend in the road in the backseat of the car. I am THE LUCKIEST MAN ALIVE!!!!

Make sure you visit the air field where they housed the Enola Gay. The barracks are almost "ghostly".

I was part of a record setting team. Ed Brace beat his old record. 2nd pass was 158mph and change. He spun out on the track after the third mile. Did a 360 spin at 150+mph. Scarry shit. I cant thank Ed brace and Bill Murphy enough. This has been the trip of a life time. We run again tomorrow.

I am at the bend in the road sleeping in the back of the Fairlane. WOW. This trip is so good. I will try to clean up the pics and add some info when I am on a better connection.

Get out and use your cars. If I had not driven into the pits in my fast rusty ass Fairlane none of this would have happened. I still get to look forward to seeing BigpappaB and riding with him to the Hamb Drags, oh yeah and the Hamb Drags...

I am hanging out in Grand Junction for a few hours. I think I am going to take the back roads to Colorado springs. I would like to drive down to Montrose, love that town. The western slope of Colorado and Las Cruses Nm are my two favorite places, some day I will pack my stuff and move to one of them. Headed over to see Charles at Alcan spring, I have not seen him in almost 10 years, I use to make it through here much more often.

The pics from Bonneville are Great. A few of the team, Ed getting his "spin pin"
A few trains, and my favorite fins and sunsets.

I hope everyone is safe on the salt.

Saw your fairlane out on the salt a few times. Good looking car! Glad you enjoyed your time here. I guess us locals are spoiled. There are SO many hotrodders right here in Utah that have never been to Speedweek. I hope it doesn't get too touristy and out of control. It was pretty big this year. Anyway, your car looked great. Have a safe trip back home!

Well Bryan and I are in Springfield. Easy trip,770miles. Going to the swap meet in the morning, then headed a short 60miles to Joplin. I adopted a wonderful 12 year old girl. She is riding with us. Her name is Sasha.

In no real order Sasha, some cool Colorado pictures, Bryan, the Fairlane getting an oil change and once over, a nice Kansas sunset.
