Thanks for the additional photo of the 1939 Ford Tom.

Johnny, the car was in a crash and the front end was damaged. They must have found a 1940 DeLuxe front end to replace it with. I agree with you that it lost a lot of character when they rebuilt the car. It sure would be great if the car would be bought by an owner who is willing to bring it back to how it looked in the late 1940's.

This is how it looked with the top up.

Thanks to JimmyB for the scans

What color was the '40 originally, looks to be dark? The yellow doesn't do anything for it, IMO.

The 1948 Hot Rod Article states it was painted Metallic green.

The actual color was the greenish chartruese of the front shot. Probably one of the worst color choices I have ever seen on a quality car.

Rik Art's old Ford didn't sell at the auction. It was estimated to sell between $120,000 - $160,000... but the reserve wasn't met. Hehe, I can see that one. A really nice car, but it needs a new restoration back to its first version by Art and Jerry!

here are some more photos I have found from the auction listing:

    Thanks Sondre.
To bad it did not sell... But unfortunately I think the reserve was set a bit to high for this car. Perhaps if it still looked like how Art built it in the late 40's... then it might have sold.
What happened to the rear bumper?

I would lay this thing down by the fire and make sweet love to it.

That #27 MILLER was restored by Chuck Davis about 10 years ago. He found the rolling ch***is and starting calling everyone that had owned the car over the years. Just about everyone had kept some parts off it, body, transmission, engine bits. He had to have the four carbs made from blueprints. Got to see it at Hershey, one of the finest MILLER restorations out there IMO.

This must be the Delage that won Best of Show. I guess that's why Jay is hanging out with it.
