Figured I'd ask before I tried it. Will nothing happen? Will the battery explode and blow my face off? I've heard mixed things on this and I'm not really sure what's true.

Bear with this newbie and and his newbie questions..

    Thanks fellas!

  2. You can do it, just be careful.

takes two people- one to try starting the car and the other put the cables to the 6 volt battery JUST BEFORE you start it and take them off RIGHT after you get it running.

I've done it hundreds of times.
No problem, but I dont EVER leave the jumper cables on a second longer than needed!

interesting... so what do you suppose would happen if you hooked up the 12 and just left it? I mean without even cranking to motor.

same thing that happens to all over charged batterys. it will boil all the fluid out of it makeing hydrogen, whith the potential to explode. well thats my guess anyways

    Great - thanks guys!

how about the positive ground on my 6 volt? I would still connect pos to pos and neg to neg - yeah?

I'm also curious about happens. Is this thing gonna blow up in my face if it's on too long? Or maybe damage the electrical system in the car?

Always a chance of a battery popping even if both are 12v.

You are supposed to hook the ground last, and hook it to part of the engine away from the battery.....but not many of us do that.

AND....make sure everything on the 6V car is OFF,(except the ignition of course) lights, radio, or whatever. Otherwise you'll be replacing burned-out stuff. Don't even step on the brake pedal, use the emergency brake.

To be safe byp*** the 6V battery. Jumper to the block and the starter side of the solenoid, just put the key in the on position and jump the starter ot the battery.
