Honest reply, from a friend. DON'T chop it! Sure it would be fun and everyone should chop a top at least once, but you said you want to sell it. Whoever is out there with the funds to buy this would want to buy an untouched original IMO. The RPU sounds right if it is rust free. If your current goal is making money the less time you spend on things the most profit you'll make......(Quote)Im thinking about selling my original 32 three window body. In todays market, should I try and sell it unchopped or chopped? I really want to chop it. Would it pay to do this or hurt?

Love to keep it, but I'm helping my girl go back to school as her bachelors degree isn't getting her anywhere in good ole NJ. Hate to sell... but I also have this same reoccuring problem with storage in my garage and crowding my workspace. Working on fixing that within the next few weeks too, so could use some spare change for it. I'm really realizing I should own one hot rod, ...not two or three, etc. I just somehow feel like I always need to have a personal project going as well as a driver, bordom I guess.

Should I chop or not before I sell?(Quote)

  2. I think I would do a real nice job.... Been chopping cars for a few years now, maybe 10 or more??? Honestly... it takes a good eye! I'd also say out of ten 32 three windows, I might see one chop that I like. I dislike even chops, where you add metal to the roof and doors. Just my opinion or taste. This is the main reason why I wanna chop one.

My main problem... is space. I'm working on a complete ground up, chopped and bagged Merc right now... I have a three car garage, and can barely park my roofless 32 roadster in at night.

I'm putting a porch up soon off the front of the garage, so I'll have soime more covered work space for rainy days, and may be buying a 40 ft. container to store the two roadsters I own and parts the take up space in the work area. Space is my nightmare.

I hate cars sitting outside... So I can't strip it to bare metal like I want and chip away. Plus, I may need some extra funds now to help my girlfriend. Which will help me in the end.

Thanks everyone, I'm not making any quick and rash decisions.

  3. What so dumb? ...smart ***

  4. Thanks kid! I'm hearing all you guy... your all right. I won't chop if I decide to sell.

Glad you anwsered about the 30 RPU... I'm thinking it may make sence. My buddy said he might go in on it with me too... so it could get easier.

Keep the car; a loan may cost you less than the likely future appreciation in value. I chopped mine only because that's what I liked and the hell with everybody elses' opinions.

  6. I got my anwsers... so no need to go on with the thread. I'm taking all your good advice.

Besides, I dont wanna piss of Larry. By the way... I see some pretty retarded threads on here. I had a legit question, thanks.

The market is so ****py right now it's not worth selling. Sell off parts first.

  9. Thats funny... I barely post on here cause I feel like it always seems like everyone is bragging.

I had a serious question as I din't know what to do. I'm not selling soon, as school is a year off, she has 4 other cl***es she has to take before she can do the last year which is full time. So I have time if I wanna chop it and gain more money in a sale.

But storage... is still a major problem. I hope to have a steel beam in next week and a loft, this will help. I may buy a cheap used container for my cars...

Daughter needs to start learning about the real world..to be in debt. She can get a student loan, you can keep your car, you both win. Todays economy has nothing to do with the desireability of a chopped vs unchopped '32, it is all relative.

  12. I'd git off the fence rail, one way or t'other...just make your decision and follow thru with it. Life is too short to worry about decisions...and besides...worrying takes time away from working on your projects. And we all know how important finishing up a project is, whether its a honey do or a hot rod.

I found it to be a legit ? I'd keep the coupe sell whatever I can ( Family First ! ) and then get on with having a great 32. Are you planning any more events after the Motor Speedway thing ?

There is a LOT more single women in New Jersery than there is original 32 Ford 3W coupes :)

Trying to help your girlfriend is admirable ... but she is NOT your legal responsibility.

I would do what I had to to keep the 3W ...
Sell off other stuff/projects and such if you must help.

The Deuce 3W would be the LAST thing to leave ...

    And yes ... I do own a 32 Ford 3W coupe :D

Picture this scenario: you sell the 3W for tons of $, you give the $ to your GF for school, she runs off with a schoolmate and you never hear from her again. It's very noble of you, but unless you have a contract in writing with her, farg that, girls are way too flaky to trust. Keep the 3W. Student loans are available, and affordable, especially if she's projecting to make loads of dough in the future. Just my $0.02.

I completely agree with Deuce Roadster post #49..

and there is also no proof that her "finishing" any education will giver her a better job or salary..at least not in this day and age..

but one thing is pretty dam sure..your chances of finding a good 32 body is lower on the possibilities of her even being with you for another year or 2:eek:

women are fickel..and for the stupidest reasons call long term relationships off for the craziest ****..that car body doesnt care about a dam thing you say or do..it just sits there waiting on you..and will forever if you so decide..

sorry reality really blows dont it?

    keep the car, sell her

but hey ...dont listen to me..just call me when you decide to sell..I get first dibs;):D:cool:

I think the HAMB has a wonderful symmetry. If you ask a dumb question, you'll get a bunch of dumb answers.

I'd also like to advise you to step away from the Sawzall until you can quit waffling about what to do, like a girl getting ready to go out. If you don't have a clear vision of what you're cutting on, leave it be.

The thread is done with pretty much but I will say this. This is not just a girlfriend but the mother of this 3 month son which carries just as much if not more then a marriage certificate gives you. We are not talking about him giving up something he loves like the hobby as a whole but just a car that he's not all that tied to emotionally. If you've seen DD's lineup over the last few years, selling a 3w '32 is not really that big of a deal. I think it's awesome gesture and anybody that's been to college can tell you that the debt buries you, so any leg you can get up on it is great.

I do think you should hold onto it for a while to see if the market creeps back up.

  21. Didn't realize this thread was still going, got a private message from a friend and then saw people were still commenting.

Thanks for the laughs... funny stuff, and thanks for the advice too.

Like to explain a few things...

Car is sitting outside getting wet, hate this... always makes me feel like a child abuser. One of the reason why I "think" of selling. No room! I am working on fixing this right now.

My girlfriend is going to school, not my daughter. We have a son together. We both don't agree on marriage just cause we have a kid... but we are together forever.

My reason for selling, is because I honestly feel lately like I can be happy with one car. I own a 32 roadster. I like roadster over coupes... also like it windshieldless, more fun.

Real reason I bought it was because I have a sick collection of parts that I wanted to use. Going to use some, going to save some, and now start to sell some.

My question of weather to chop or not... was because I felt like I may never get a customer that has a 32 three window, and I wanna chop one. I also was interested in building a really bad *** roller to represent my style and work if I couldn't keep for myself. Think it would be good for bussiness, and fun to create as well. So I was asking for your view...instead of just my own. Although I think it would be good for future bussiness... I do think if someone wants a chopped 32, they should chop it the way they want... not the way I want. So... if I sell, I wont chop it.

If I had the room, I could consider building into a roller. If I had more time with my 9 to 5 Merc job I'm doing now, plus a new baby... I might be willing to take a chance and build it. But right now... this month, it is not happening. So I do at least have some time to figure out if I wanna sell or keep. Thanks everyone for your honest opinons.

I'll keep you all posted with any moves... Love the girlfriend advice, so true..hahaha. Turns out... we think she will be getting some grants to help her out. So won't be so tough.
