I did a complete rebuild of my brake system and now have a nos brake pedal return spring need some help with the attachment point. I have the correct pin at the pedal end that the spring hooks onto. The spring is about 7 5/8" long. (relaxed) The spring that was on the car was hooked with a piece of wire to the clutch cross shaft. I'd also like to know about the clutch return spring if anybody know that also. And last, do you guys think that 1/2 inch of free play on the brake pedal is to much? Thanks Don 47 Ford Tudor
About a 1/2" of play sounds about right. Just take a good look under the car it should be evident where the other end of the spring goes. I seem to recall a brace under the floor board just behind the removable portion with a hole drilled in it for the spring to go to.
the clutch spring does go just under the floor board to the brace. the brake spring is the one giving me trouble. Looks like a bracket is needed. note: The Ford parts manual shows, 09A 2442 clip (brake pedal retracting spring) anyone know what this is or looks like?
Ah I'm going from memory I won't be near my car till Suday, but now that you said that you jogged my memory. On my car I didn't know what was supposed to be there either, I made a bracket out of polished aluminum that comes off of the bell housing bolt and goes back a few inches and attached the spring to that. Sorry probably not much help if your going for original but it worked for me.
The above mentioned part number is a small bracket the uses the rear pan bolt to mount it. The brake pedal return spring attaches to it.
