I guess to close this one out, I'll report on the auction....

The crowd was made up of locals curious to see the cars & what they would bring, a small handful of car guys looking for a project, and 3 s**** hauling outfits. Most of the cars were so far gone they couldn't be saved. Most sold in the $200-$300 range. An early '50's Desoto with a Hemi brought $350. An Austin Bantam truck brought $650.

The El Caminos were probably the highlight of the auction since they were about the only things there worth building. I thought this might be the case & had been worried about that. The blue El Camino sold first. Everyone was in on it but me & another guy (who was buying to part out & then s****) ran it to $650. I quit at $625 & he hit it one more time. There wasn't as much interest in the red one I think largely because it was missing it's trim. Both were equally rusty. Me & the same guy ran it to $375. I won it though.

After the bidding was over I was kinda wondering what I was thinking. It is certainly the roughest car I've ever bought. Then my roadie, navigator, & the instigator of this whole trip got to digging in the leaves in the bed & found 90% of stainless trim. When it was inventoried I had some super trim and some decent trim, tinted gl***, one-piece "California" bumpers, an optional front bumper guard, and a '59 El Camino that needs a lot of rust repair.

    I'm happy.

Hey Harrison, Did you happen to get the phone # for the guy that bought the other one?

I need to find the wide trim piece from the top of the tailgate for mine. I have one but it looks like an enraged drill operator got a hold of it & then let a herd of elephants run it over. Pretty much screwed. cheaper and easier I think to find another.
