I just figured out that my 39 Deluxe has a 40 Standard Hood on it. Does anyone know if a 39 Deluxe Hood Ornament and Hood Release handle will work on a 40 Standard Hood and line up properly with a 39 Deluxe grille? It looks like the hood release handle is going to stick out beyond the grille and not line up properly. The real question I suppose is whether there is any difference at all between a 39 Deluxe and a 40 Standard hood. Does anyone know?
I don't think the hoods are interchangeable. I do know the hood latch mechanisms are different. I hope this helps. The folks on www.fordbarn.com will definitely know more than I.
I've been told the sheet metal is the same however I attempted to install a 40 standard ornament on a 39 deluxe hood and it didn't fit correctly. BTW I have a decent 39 deluxe hood in Iowa. If you would be interested in it PM me.

Years ago I got a 39 with a 40 Std hood and the 39 DeLuxe hood piece did not fit properly. The radius of the hood was slightly different.
As I found, the '39 hood and grille are a little more "blunt" by about 1". When I bought my '41 truck, it had a '39 deluxe grille and the hood stuck out an inch p***ed the grille. I bought a new Bob Drake grille that looks and fits great. The '39 grille made a great wall ornament for my shop
I'm running a 40 std (truck ?) hood on my 39, it aligns, but of course doesnt have the original shape. so I have the 40 std trim and the 39 dlx grill, works. can take pix later if ya want
That's exactly what I'm running into. The hood on my car sticks out just about 1 inch from the grille. I've only had this car for about 1 year and it can be such a challenge to figure out exactly what is on it and what has been done to it over the past 70 some years.....but that's what make it fun.
