A friend of mine want's to upgrade to disc brakes on his 50 Pontiac. I've done some searching and haven't had any luck finding a kit. Does anyone know of one or what later year parts could be used for such an upgrade? It seems he's having one helluva time stopping now that he's got 400 horses under the hood Thanks Todd
I would reccomend Brake Tech Solutions. I used them, they were very affordable, and helpfull when I did my 41 plymouth
The Scarebird is a good kit. It reuses the drum hub and it needs machined down a little for the rotor to fit over it. I would do a wheel bearing conversion at the same time. 40-54 Pontiac use the same wheel bearings as 39-58? Chevy 1/2 ton trucks. Conversion are available for those for about $100 and will fit right in the Pontiac hubs.
That was our first effort - our current setup converts to tapered roller bearings with a unicast 1/2 ton truck rotor.
We bought a couple Buick (1950, 55) frame sections to mock up and test for remote dual master. I should have an answer in about a week or so...
Mark, I have a section off of my 55 frame if it's differant. I've posted pics and measurements over on Py for you before.
55 - I would be interested in that. The "kits" that are currently sold for masters are pretty lame. I do not go to PY much anymore.
I realize this is an old post but what did your friend end up going with? Sent from my DROID RAZR using H.A.M.B. mobile app
