Vinegar is used as a de-rusting acid. Diesel and kerosene mix is used as an egnine soak to free up an engine....a**** other methods. May want to introduce yourself in the intro section, and welcome.
Havi, why diesel and kerosene? They are almost the same fuels so I just don't understand why that combination would work? If it is that kerosene is lighter, wouldn't just mixing gasoline and diesel work better yet? I have use diesel/#2 fuel oil and auto trans fluid mix, this mix worked better for me than straight #2 fuel oil (again that's why I am wondering why a mix of a lighter fuel).
I've read that kerosene is "thinner" and gets into tighter spaces than diesel, and I have no proof to show that either way. Of course this was probably suggested before the price for kero has gone up, lol. MMO, if one is willing to buy enough of it will work, too. Even coke a cola. Just #2 fuel oil works, too. As I mentioned, "a**** other methods". I just finished giving my 8BA heads a vinegar bath, and it works well for de-rusting. Mol***es is the next experiment for the block. (oh, and gas doesn't lubricate) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77566
I have freed up quite a few with acetone and trans fluid mix. Welcome to the HAMB. Who are you? Lippy
I just freed up a 31 Willys-Knight with a sleeve valve engine. Car was sitting for 20 years, I poured Marvel mystery oil into the cylinders, once a week for four months. and finally I was able to get it to turn over. just my 2 cents.
I had a flathead v8 that was froze. We took diesel ATF and kerosene and let it sit and it was free on the 3rd week. Just keep the cylinders full and keep trying every other day or so.
ATF works the best in my opinion. My brother-in-law used it on an old flathead he had and it freed it up. Sold the motor and the truck it was in to a guy upstate and he rebuilt the carb and fired it off. I guess it smoked like CRAZY for a bit until the ATF burned off but it ran!
Thanks Havi. Like I said I really don't think they are different enough to matter and I don't think either lubricate well, that's why I mixed the ATF.
