OK, I have called all the local dum*** parts places - NAPA, O'Reilly, Cost Less, and no one can find it in their books. Is it from mars? It looks just like my Edlebrock carb but not shiney. The number on the front is K1 9625 SA. I looked at the old threads here and saw that it is a 625cfm for a Chebby. It is on my '59 'Bird...

I just need to rebuild it. Obviously it is not the carb that came on the car. Anyone know the way to find a kit? I even looked online at Summit...

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

Went through the same motions rebuilding my neighbors aftermarket carter 750 and also ended up using the edelbrock kit.

    Worked fine.

Of the 9000 series AFB's the following should be considered Carter:

    All 9400, 9410, 9500, 9501, 9625, 9626, 9627
    9510s, 9511s, 9635s, 9636s, 9637s

The following should be considered "clones" even though they are marked Carter

    9510sa, 9511sa, 9635sa, 9636sa, 9637sa

    All 9502, 9503, 9504, 9604, 9605, 9606, 9607, 9738, 9641, 9755, 9756, 9757, 9758

The kits for the clones differ from the kits for genuine Carter. Even though some parts in the clone kits may physically fit the genuine Carter carbs, materials are different, and performance may differ.

I had a 9625 on a Chevy II..and had a problem with the accel. pump draining down and causing a no-start after sitting... found out that down in the acc. pump well, there's a "pump jet check valve" in there..It's a small, removable spring-loaded ball check valve ,looks like a main jet with a tiny spring & ball in the bore. The fuel supply to my acc. pump came in thru the bottom and the "check jet" kept the fuel from draining out. The very tiny coil spring rusted away, allowing the fuel to drain out after sitting a few days. I looked a a lot of rebuild kits and could not find a kit that contained that particular part. I also found out that not all AFB's had that type of fuel curcuit using a removable check-jet .I called Benchwick Carburetor Co (Youngstown, Ohio) and they had what I needed. This was 8-10 years ago and they may not still be in business.
Just a heads up on what I ran into rebuilding a 9625...BTW , thats one of the best carbs I ever used on a 283" SBC...no leaks, stayed in tune, etc

Turbo - you found one of the differences from genuine Carter AFB's to the clones. And the valve does come in the better kits.

Old thread but I though that I would update. I used the Edlebrock kit and it works great!

I put a 1411 that I have around on the car and it ran great so I knew that the problem was the carb.

I got the 1477 kit and it was a piece of cake to rebuild and it runs fantastic.

    Thanks again for the help.

    Later,

    Mike
