I have seen pictures of this car in the past,,,,Harley Earl was a dreamer ,,,like most of us,,,,,,this is a rare one of a kind car,,,and was sold for $3,000,000.00 bucks yesterday at the Barrett-Jackson auction,,WOW! HRP http://www.barrett-jackson.com/login/loginstatus.aspx
Oh,yeah,,,,,I forgot about the $240,000.00 dollar commision on top of the buyers price,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I would have posted the pictures ,but I'm still trying to relearn how! HRP
I was watching that auction. It's a beautiful car with great lines and some really cool styling ideas. Too bad that the guy who bought it was such a tool. But I guess with a 3mil bankroll he has a right to act however he wants.
Alrighty then, $3,000,000 and the guy cries-because he's happy he just spent that amount of money!!! I realize that it is a rare and beautifully put together car-but, what the hell is going on here? On the other hand, the F-88 is going to go into a museum where it can be seen by the public, so I thank this crying fool for at least spending his money on something others beside himself can enjoy.
that cars lines are cl***ic...I miss that kinda stuff now a days..at the autoshows...ya know everything is blah...that is a beautiful ride
That over spending goofball also bought 3 other cars on air , he has spent like 4.5 million alone . If anybody knows about his place in colorado lemmie know .Gee almost 5 million i wonder what he is going to charge for admission , 2,500 ea ?250.00 to use the ****per ?Would ya like a hotdog and a coke for lunch , that will be 1,300 .yes napkins are 10.00 ea
I was thinkin' of buying that Rocket but I was $2,999,999 short?!?!?!!? I guess his museum is a new deal in Colorodo Springs...set to open this year. I'm not a big museum goer (the stuff NEEDS to be driven) but this should be a good one. Did I here the announcing team say GM built THREE of these and another guy has the other two stored in his barn? Is that guy Bortz? Anybody know?
I watched the bidding, and thought it was the best car in the auction before it started to go through the roof. The winner sure was on a mission, so what if he got emotional after he won, that happens after Daytona and the Indy 500. I don't know a thing about the guy or the museum, but every GREAT collection has a center piece vehicle and the owner that is driven by p***ion for the cars he personally likes.
I thought the cars Bortz had were Pontiac Bonneville Specials... same thing only different, with Straight 8 Power! I love the F88, but was a little to shy for a phone in bid. Jay
I think it is called Gateway Auto Museum, or something like that. I thought it is going to be on the western slope in the Grand Junction area, but Im not sure. Anyone have more details about it?
The announcers said on Sunday that the guy opening the museum was the guy that owns the discovery channel. I think that guy that actually purchased the car just works for him, after all he couldn't even afford a change of clothes! Apparently the owner is building a house and everything out there, so I wonder if it is all just a creative tax dedudtion strategy. If it is, I need to figure out an angle like that to pay for my hobby. The goofy "ferrari" dude said that there are only 32 cars in the museum. Sounds like just a big garage to me. Wish it were me!
from what I remember that car was supposed to be Crushed, but the crusher hid that car in a barn- it was found and restored. I got to see it in person at Iola in 96 or seven... that car RULES in person!
High seller at the BJ was a 54 Olds, and a Ferrari went for 36K chump change. There's justice in the world afterall. I loved it when the guy called it a 54 Oldsmobile Corvette. Same thing I thought when I saw it.
I saw that car at Barrett Jackson 8 or 9 years ago. It was painted white, the fibergl*** was all cracked, the windshield was cracked, the interior was all ripped up, it had miss-matched wheels and it didn't run. It was in sad shape and not many people paid any attention to it. It probably sold for less than $10,000. I was really glad to see this *****in, one of a kind car so beautifully restored this year, but 3 million dollars? Aye chinga!
I have no idea if this museum even exists. The Forney is the only car museum in colorado that I am aware of, and that runs on 1m a year. That guy seems like a tool, tho. -Crew
That was too egos running wild. They said Sunday that the under bidder was a local guy that had never been out bid before. I thought the goofy guy was gonna pop the under bidder. What an ***.
I bet "Ferrari dude" could have bought that car for a million less if he hadn't have been such an *** about it. I would have run the price right up his *** too if I were bidding against him.
I don't know what year it was sold,80's or 90's from what I have been told, but It did sale at the B/J auction for a paultry sum of $600,000.00,,, I would have to say that selling it for 3 million fun tickets is a damn good return on your investment! HRP
craig said he was a friend of the buyer, and that the buyer told him he woulda paid 5 million if he had to
