I've never run M/T 'ET Streets" but about
    10 years ago I ran some 21.5X33-15 M/T
'Sportsman Pro' wrinkle walls on an OT '84
Camaro Pro Streeter, without tubes and
never had any issues., either on the street or
at the track. I had then on 15X14 Weld wheels,
with rim screws and ran them at about 10 - 12
    psi.

i think you'll be fine- in two years of running 28x12.50 15 ET Streets on 4100lb car with 520lbtq at crank, 3000 stall, and a DEEP first gear planetary i only had a tire rotate on the rim ONE inch. There was enough load and traction that as the ring gear pushed on the crosspin, it started to eat it's way THROUGH the carrier due to resistance of getting the car moving. That was with 13 lbs of air in the tires, no rim screws, and a chassis that got a dead hook every time.

When i got one that bled down, i put a tube in it.- and it moved ONE inch again from installed position- now that one i watched because without rim screws its possible the wheel can spin and take the valve stem off the tube- but because i put baby powder on the tube when installing it, the tube moved with the rim for that one inch- no problems ever.

SO... unless you have GOBS of power, and high resistance to movement, you wont have problems spinning it around the rim- and if it DID spin a bit, there's no harm unless you have tubes and rip off the valve stem.

but you will need to air them up a bit to cruise- just test to see what cruising psi and launching psi works best for you.

    you'll be fine.

Thanks Rick! I'd type more but my son found me! lol I really appreciate your help!

  9. 12 psi cold is okay, you have a stick car and so it will be work to hook that car.

I usually ran mine between 12-14 psi cold without tubes or screws, best 60 was 1.50.

I've gone 1.35 on MT 28x10.5 stiff side sidewall ET Drags, ran em at 12 psi cold.

For what its worth im not running screws or bead locker on my 26x8.5 ET Drags ,and i have had no issues with the 15x7 rims spinning inside them .I run 14.5 to 15 psi in them .This is with me dropping the Tbrake at 4000 rpm and mid to low 1.5 60 foots.I scribed a line on them and have seen no movement ...

Thanks Shocker! After talking to you guys and some offline friends I think I will start at 15 psi then drop in 1/2 pound increments until I hook/reach 12 psi. I'll let you guys know how it works out. I'll be sure to put a line on them too.

what size wheels/tires are we talking about here? that's a little odd. what wheels were you using? stick/auto? simple 5.0-means stock mill with no power adders?

gotta be more to that story unless streetmasters just have a crappy bead...

    Glad I don't have M&H streetmasters! I run a 5.0 with the ET streets @ 10-14 PSI. Never a problem. 5spd, NOS, @ 2600lbs w/out me, never a problem! Alum weld wheels, no screws.

I'm no genius, but if you coat the inside of the wheel and bead with slippery soap - wouldn't you want screws in the bead? Seems the tire would spin on the bead rather easily, even if the soap were to be dried out eventually.

  16. I've run slicks as low as 9 psi cold, and from personal experience I did not like the top track sway or shimmy with 28" tires and low tire psi... 9-10 psi cold swayed a lot for me.

I never really saw more than an inch of tire movement and that would be after 3-4 outings.

To hook a stick car, my suggestion would be 12 psi cold, and try to keep the nose up and the weight on the back tires. But don't run rear shocks that are soft, otherwise the car will rock back and forth and unload the suspension. If you ran like a QA1 shock, I'd run the rears at 7/7 on the stiff side and the fronts at 2/2. That's how I also ran 325 50 15's, also cut 1.35's on those too.

Soap goes on inside of tires not wheels.

All my buddies with Mustangs run the ETs with no tubes. Those tires hook like there is no tomorrow, and a lot of drivetrain components have been lost with all that traction. It's reallllllly impressive.

I've always run Nitto Extreme Drags (315/35R17) on my GT. Not as much traction as the M/Ts, but the compound makes for a more well rounded performance tire that still hooks like crazy, but also corners well and gives me about 30K miles of tread life before it becomes dangerous. I never take them off except for snow. They look really bad ass on the car too since they fill out the entire wheel well

You don't have to run tubes, but if you do Dont run tubes unless you plan on pinning the tires to the rims with rim lock screws, the first time you hook you will rip the valve stem off the tubes!

Mickey T's did the trick. Mind you it was BLAZING HOT at Mo-Kan Saturady. God only knows what track temps were. I was locked in on around 11.94 for the last several runs. BUT....I had my best 60 footer (1.61) on my last run when I was really starting to groove. Problem is I missed 4th gear. Still good enough for 11.99. Based on my 1/8 mile (7.5) on that run which was a full tenth better than my 11.94 run I think I would have run an 11.70. Bummer... Best times were at 11 lbs and 5k launch. Thrilled with those times, but I ain't done yet. Mo-Kan was a total blast!

CONGRATULATIONS! The feeling you get from that first dead hook, telling you that you're really on a pass is a great rush!

Now throw some more gear in that sweet honey and make them sticky tires truly earn it! lol....

Rick, man I think you have been reading my mail! That is exactly what I thought too! I really would like to do it before Reunion at Ardmore and pin my ears back, but good. I'm hardly even getting into 4th gear right now.
The best picture I could find of my car showed that the rear tires were all wrinkled up and the front tires were just barely touching the ground. You could almost see light under the left front. So what gears were you thinking about oracle?

LMAO, that's too much! haha- I dont know your whole combo- Did you ever have the mill on a pump and get numbers? Or maybe a chassis dyno? If not lets do some math...

Missing some info...whatcha got right now?

    cubic inches?
estimated or measured crank hp at what rpm?
    2730lbs
    tko600 is 2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1.00, and either .82 or .64 overdrive
    4.11
    28x12.5,15s
    launching at 4500
    shift rpm?
    redline?
what was your mph for your cleanest pass? and at what rpm were you?

if this download is the same as my original version (may have been changes), then you'll love it...

    http://racingdownloads.com/racing_software-27.html

its addictive. the notes that populate the bottom of each entry tab are really helpful.

edit: play around on this page for awhile, too- (you have the .64 overdrive?)
    http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/5sp_comparison.html

you'll want to calculate rear gear using 1-4rth only in the quarter mile (well, i guess you might have to use 5th if your close to your redline in the lights)

If your at redline, you could also just beat the wee out of them this year, change gears and flop on a pair of 30x13.5s :)

in the off season put them in good plastic bags in a dark room without any electric motors nearby (motors make ozone, which degrades rubber)

Ok so here is a bit more dope from the dope. It's a 383 stroker,.82 overdrive, now launching more around 5k (hard to say...I get excited), I'm shifting at about 6300 although it seems like certain gear prefer slightly different shift points. I'm shifting more by feel than tach, not sure what my redline is yet cause I don't have a rev limiter...I guess when I hear harp music lol. I'm currently running a hydraulic roller so probably gonna float at about 7k right?!, best ,mph was about 115.
Haven't got to check out the vids yet cause I'm rushing to get to work, but I'll hit you back tonight.

Nice job .Its amazing what a better pair of shoes can do to your 60'.Getting a 1.61 60 foot is great and that mph of 115 in the heat tells me that 383 is making real hp.Looking forward to seeing it run in person in a few weeks at Ardmore.Congrats on your hitting 11's in a street driven all motor car also, not many of them around here :) ...

Thanks Shocker! I ain't done yet man. Don't get me wrong...I'm thrilled with 11's, but 10's is what I'm after. I would love to run a taller gear at Reunion and really boogie, but time may be a problem. Stay tuned lol:D

Thanks James! Hope your having fun in Spain. I expect 10's to be pretty elusive for sure, but so much fun trying to do. I know I can run 11.70 on a ridiculously hot track with my current setup. At night on a cooler track who knows. THEN if I had a taller gear I think I might could knocking at that door. What gear do you think might be good to try man because I'm going to try and get something done for Reunion at Ardmore.
