    Gonna build the Kon-Tiki Koop?
    Don't forget the little umbrellas...
I could use a little Mai-tai after this thread.

Only on the HAMB can someone ask a question like this and actually get a listing of bamboo types with the benefits of each type and sources of where to buy it. Not to mention ideas for making stronger substitutes.

    Mahalo!

  11. Ya know bamboo is very popular in furnature right know and some of the tables have steal that is painted. It looks like real bamboo so you may just buy one end table or a coffie table and have enough to make a cool grill. Useless

    Pandas eat Bamboo.
So if you live where there are alot of Pandas,
the Bamboo grill idea might not work. [IMG] [IMG]

  18. Hey TikEK, I finally got some pictures of my bamboo grill insert that Eyeball was talkin about a while back. The bad thing is, my camera died, and all I had to snap photos with is my picture phone, but I think you get the idea from them...

    Thanks CJHacker.

    • Have you done anything to prevent splitting etc.
    • Does the vibration affect the bamboo?
    • Would love to see some more detailed photos of how you attached to the frame etc.
PM me if you want to send em straight to me, or post them here.
    Thanks again.:D

  20. CJHACKER- Your coupe gives me wood. :D

Seriously... that is a cool fuckin' T!!!
The grille is slicker than baby brains on a bumper.
Hate to say it, but, I'm stealing this idea and I'm gonna do this at some point...

I swear I saw them use a bamboo grill on the Iron Chef, but my wife says it was a steamer.

I get it, and I like it. Looks good with the black color too. What do you have on hte door? what is instore for the interior too? Keep us posted eh?

  28. I didn't do anything to prevent splitting yet...figure I can just replace the shafts as need for now, though I was thinking of sealing it with some marine sealer of some sort. I won't be able to snap any pix until I get a new camera, but basically it's just some angle iron with bolts welded to it that the bamboo slides over. The top side is welded to the grill shell, and the bottom is bolted to a stud welded to the shell.

Things got seriously put on hold on my poor coupe once my son was born, but I hope to get rollin' on it again here pretty soon. Actually planned on doin' it in blue silver flake (the frame is silver flake already), and haven't totally decided on the interior other than some of the flake material that I've got laying around. Top will be flake material snap on with bamboo bows and was also looking at making a bamboo top for it as well....but we'll see if I can find enough around town. It's not really a common thing up here in North Dakota. haha

On the door right now is our "family crest" of sorts. lemme see if I've got a picture of that....You can see it a little better in this pic...

  29. I was wondering if you'd had it chromed. It's cool as hell.

I like the bamboo attachment method, too. Simple to replace if they get funky.

...and the studs around the firewall. I like.

Good work... and keep us posted.

There was green 5 window with copper wheels that was channeled too far on here a while back - had a surf board on top of it and a bamboo interior. I searched the archives but couldn't find any good pics - anybody have a shot of the interior?
