I hope I'm not breaking any rules here, but I feel the need to pass this on. I am not connected to this guy either. Not all of these are HAMB material, but quite a few are. For less than a grand, it couldn't hurt to look into. http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/cto/1910685361.html Save some old iron!
Now why wouldn't the guy just try to sell them to the public for what the crusher would give him? I don't see them being worth 950 each but there might be a lot of people that would be willing to give him more that what the crusher would give him which last time I checked worked out to be about 250 for an average car. Sounds kinda stupid on his part to me.
I've heard a few stories in the last few months of yard owners turning down money from someone wanting to buy a car before the yard owner accepted less from the crusher, his reasoning was as a car it was worth more than the offer, as scrap he was getting a fair deal. Sounds like dumbass mentality to me.
I went and checked these out this past weekend. There are about 100 cars sitting out in the field. Most are pretty rough, but could be good for parts/trim/glass. Most floors and interiors are rotted out. Some vehicles of interest: -Late 50's Cadillac Limo -2 other mid to late 50's Cadillacs -2 59 El Caminos / 1 59 Sedan -2 CJ3 series Jeeps -Willys Truck/Wagon -Tri Five wagon (56 if I remember) -Early 50s chevy truck -57 GMC front clip -66ish Chevy panel truck (this looked to be in pretty cood shape) Lots of other stuff that I'm not remembering and that is newer (70s) and lots of wheels (Slots everywhere, Keystones, Supremes, Centerlines) The owner said he has several yards looking to buy the cars and wants to clear out soon.
that sounds like a 2 year old... if I can't have it I will smash it before I give it to you...lol I have seen the same thing $45 for an insturment cluster, then the next week smashed the whole vehicle.. for $80, seems like the instrument cluster did not take up 1/2 the weight of the vehicle....
I'd take a set ford steelies and chevy steelies if he has those to sell...wish he was open on Sunday. hummmm...sounds like i have to take a day off to check it out down there.
What a worthless LAZY f*ck! Ruins it for everyone since he cant have it his way! I hope someone buys out most if not all those cars for at least parts..
Scrap is going for 200 a ton for autos in my area for normal joe who drags his stuff in, I have been scrapping late model junk at 250-500 a car. not sure what a yard gets paid when they come in and take several or the whole yard. It aint right but just to put in perspective.
