The car had 3 wheels and a Suzuki 4cyl. cycle engine in it. I thought it might be a Suzuki Samari? It was one of the French cars. The other car from France was a streamliner that ran on compressed air and I think it went 204mph.

 

I love the pics! I was there with my '55 Chevy shorty on Sunday and had a blast. It was my first time to the salts and I'm definitely hooked now!

 

I'm hooked too now!! Sunday was my birthday, and my first time on the salt. It's one birthday I'll never forget. This was my pit transport

Next year I'll have an engine of some kind on it.....

Regarding the Gullwing ...

The car is owned by Bob Sirna ... and has been run at Vintage Road Races and at Bonneville for quite a few years now.

Be sure to checkout the do***entary "Gullwing At Twilight" by Chris Szwedo ... it's a very well done film about 87 year old John Fitch driving Sirna's (Lynn Yakel prepared) 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing @ B'ville. Every once & awhile, PBS re-runs it on their HD channel ... a DVD is available for purchase on the Szwedo website. For a preview, watch THE MAKING OF A GULLWING AT TWILIGHT (a Quicktime clip).

Great Pictures BOB!!!! was a little blast to the recap of a wonderful time there on the salt!!! i'm not sure if I am disappointed or relieved that ya missed me in your photos.... Seems that my friend Anna and I were the Bonneville girls behaving Badly...
riding around on the decklid of a 64 pontiac bonneville, twirling around in our dresses and talking to racers and crew in the pits... teasing the golden nugget dancers and stirring up trouble in the campground!
it was a heck of a time out there on the salt... memories that will stay with me forever, or until next year when we do it again!

I have to agree with most of what I just read! There were some young kids riding a quad and a dirtbike FLYING down the return road,in between the track and the spectators. I didn't see any speed limit signs except for in the pit area. There were quite a few cars going WAY too fast,in my opinion. Maybe there should be a designated spectator area. It was my first time there,so I didn't know wether this was a common thing. I know at El Mirage,the Rangers drive around and patrol the areas. There were too many kids driving fast on quads and dirt bikes.

 

I have to apologize for the fuzzy pic's. This new camera is so touchy when the sun goes down,it's really hard to keep steady without a tri-pod......
