I picked up a Lincoln Cosmopolitan this last weekend off of Craigslist here in Phoenix AZ not sure what year it is (no ***le) serial number starts out 9EH****X so I kind of ***ume it might be a 1949 the orignal grill is missing and someone spent some tiem putting a late model disk brake front end under it allong with its nine inch rear end. it has sitting in the engine bay a 460 witha C-6 but it is just sitting there. All the chrome is in the back seat the gl*** is all shot except for the back gl*** (three pieces) The frfont grill is from a mid fiftys DeSoto or so I was told I am not sure if I want to use it but I do not have the original. So first things first off to MVD for a ***le then I will start on it. I will post pic as soon as I figure it out again.
awesome, its good to hear about cosmopolitan's, I'm looking at one myself. so whats your plan for it.
I used to hasve a Baby Lincoln (Capri) but it was stolen the night of my oldest Daughters wedding from my storage yard so I have been looking for another one for about seven years or so First I am going to get it ***led in my name then I will start working on it to make it drive once I can drive it around the block I will get an interior in it and gl*** and maybe some day chop the top but right now I love the looks as it is the patina is a little spotty so I might primer it and go with a satin finish the car was black and remarkably damage free the only rust I have found while I had it on my friend's tow truck was on the rocker panel under the doors the floors and the trunk are nice and solid. I also want the funny looing chrome strips off the front end along with most of the other chrome stuff.
The Capri was a dressed-up version of the 1950 & 1951 Lincoln Cosmo. The baby Lincoln counterpart in 1950 & 1951 was called the Lido.
That is true. The lido was an up market baby Lincoln only produced in '50 & '51. It can be identified by the vinyl roof. The Capri was the up market version of the Cosmopolitan. That had a one piece curved front screen. The top of the line was the EH series Cosmopolitan 6 P***enger Coupe model 72B and the Convertable model 76, then the Capri 6 P***enger Coupe model 72C and the Sport Sedan model 74 in 1951 all with 125" wheelbase. The "Baby Merc" models were the EL series 6 p***enger coupe model 72B, Lido 6 p***enger coupe model 72C, the Sport Sedan model 74 both with 121" wheelbase. The EH series wheelbase was 7" longer than the Merc and the EL series was 3" longer than the Merc.
Lido missed the boat that day he left the shack But that was all he missed and he ain't comin' back A tombstone bar in a jukejoint car
The one I had was badged Lincoln Capri it was a 1949 with the three piece rear window the body was almost excatly like a buddy of mines 49 Merc but the front was longer and had frenched in headlights and a long piece of heavy chrome to hide the Merc body line down the side of the car. Still looking for who took it.
Odds are that the badge was not original to the car... Or it was a unique one off worth a trillion bucks.. Might be why it was stolen..
I don't know maybe it was a Cosmopolitan Capri what I remeber most is it was almost a Merc only cooler looking with a better engine and an automatic trans made by GM. That was then this is now. Why it got stolen is a long story one I can't prove so it does not matter. Kevin
