This is my first attempt at polishing aluminum from a cast piece. It is an aftermarket Fenton dual intake for a Chevy 235 I6. I found the hardest part was filling off all the old casting marks. I just used several different hand files for that. The rest was just done with different grit sand paper and a buffing wheel I got down at Lowe's. I'm no professional but I think it turned out pretty good. I took some before and after pics.

    What do you think?

you might not be a professional YET; but you get a rep for work like that and you WILL be considered a Pro before long. that's nice work!

you could make it a side line and really make some dough easily. just saying.

Anyone who has further aluminum polishing issues/questions might want to check out the forums at the Feather Craft boat site:

    http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=729&subForumID=80574&p=2

The FC guys spend a huge amount of time figuring the best way to polish/maintain the aluminum on these very cool boats. Lots of info. there on polishes, sanding techniques, etc. For what it's worth...

It looks nice, I actually like the black paint/polished combo.
It takes a lot to polish cast aluminum, especially when you file and sand it by hand. I'm power tools all the way :D.

You know with polishing skills, you can get your intake chromed for as little as $50. I know a guy.

Try Busch's Aluminum Polish on it after you've gone at with 1200 grit sand paper. will look like a million bucks

Polishing cast aluminum it's a dirty, nasty, time consuming PIA job that is real satisfying when you look at the final product! That is of course if have the patence to get THRU the first part! Most the time I don't so I send it out. Nice job.
