We just brought this home within the hour:

Those wheels and tires gotta go!

It's a '62, 6 cylinder, 4-speed. The paint job is a cheapo, the wheels are out of balance, and it pulls to the right, but it's got good "bones" and it will be a good economical daily with just a little work.

Stand back in case all that power gets out! How about that hot rod air cleaner, huh? :) It actually runs pretty well, just needs a little TLC and a rear main seal.

The seller says it's a "late" '62 and that's why it's got a 4-speed. I didn't know they ever put a 4-speed behind a six in '62, but whatever. It works fine, shifts smooth, and seems to be factory.

Those wheels and tires gotta go along with the steering wheel.

Bottom line it was reasonably priced and just what we've been looking for so it will be fun to own and drive. We're happy.

I bought a $300 or maybe $350 POS '64 Ford Fairlane 500 station wagon and daily drove it for like 11 years as my DD.

It had a 260"er in it that I torched a ring end groove through onna the pistons eary-on.

I then installed a good 221"er, in her and like 4 years later, I did a $150, dingle-berry hone and Krylon paint job overhaul to the 260 and ran her for years.

Loved it b/c I could drop the rear seat and slide in a 4'x8' piece a whatever paneling AND I did load her up a couple a times! Sucker had a big axle ended 9" rearend under it!!!

You got a winner in your new Falcon and so take care of her!

  6. Congratulations, the car looks like it will be a lot of fun. Get it safe and drive the wheels off of it.

Cool car. A few changes and you'll have a really cool driver. I've had a soft spot for the 1st gen Falcons every since my dad dropped a 200 ci sixbanger into his baby blue '62 back in the early '70's. That was one running little Falcon.

Very nice! Reminds me of my 62 merc. I'd raise the back a little and go with some dog dishs' on black painted steel. Good luck with it.

Going by the fuel pump I think you may have about a 65 up engine. That style FP won't fit a 62 block I learned the hard way. Do a little digging on casting etc. numbers on the block and see what it really is. Later engines had 5 freeze plugs on the side .

Some of those factory 4-speeds were German-made Daugenham (sp?) units. I believe they're quite rare

Well, that's good to know. I was planning on doing all that numbers checking stuff eventually. I found a couple of pretty good resources for inline Fords on the web so the information is out there.

    Thanks for the tip.

I have read that before a few times at the start of some of the longer build threads....

good job - these early Falcon's are starting to grow on me - in 1964 i bought a new one with a 260 with a 4 speed - the 283's gave me a hard time for awhile - i could see a dechromed 62 in the stable - tom

Dagenham [sp] were English made. Worked pretty good with the 6s.

Looks very cool! About 20 years ago, my second car was a '62 falcon and I had alot of fun with it - it's a great little car.
