It's that time again when the two NSRA shows fall on the same weekend. NSRA Shades of the Past in Pigeon Forge Tennessee is the same weekend again as the NSRA in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Which one are you attending?

I do understand though that the cow pasture is not going to be used for the Shades this time. It's going to be on a paved lot close to Dollywood. That should be nicer than the mud and smell. But Shades is always great!

Shades of the Past isn't an NSRA event!

That in itself is enough of a reason to pick Shades of the Past :)

Plus the Shades has a cutoff of 1972 ... not 1980.
Pigeon Forge is more fun than Kalamazoo ...

The cars in town at the Shades will out number the cars in Kalamazoo
    so more to look at.

The night action is vastly better in Pigeon Forge.

also Frankenmuth MI is the same weekend again this year. They had close to 6,000 cars there last year. Someday I'll make that show.

I am going to Nats North in Kzoo

I'd stay in Michigan and do the Frankenmuth event over those two others you mentioned.;)

Though my opinon may possible change........I was perfectly happy with the so called cow pasture.

Asphalt and 85-90 degree temps are not my cup of tea. I just loose the feeling when I am parked in a Wal-Mart type of setting.

So I will attend again this year and give it a look see.

  8. I'm not excited about the parking lot at Dollywood but that dusty-ass field & the shitty little path leading to it sure weren't anything to get excited about previously.

Shit, it's Sept. in TN. Field or parking lot - it'll be so damn hot you can't breath regardless of where you are.

IF I can find a way to pop an Easy-Up at the new location, I'm betting I'll like Dollywood better.

yeah i think i'll try it myself.but the easy-up thing may be the trick.where&if you can pop one up...we will see

  10. The whole Dollywood parking lot deal could be the death nail for the Shades of the Past and then again it might be pure genius,,we will have to wait and see.

I'm going again this year but if I don't like it I go somewhere else next year.

    BTW,,Jim and Randy,,what's up with the avatars?HRP

I'm off to Frankenmuth that weekend, been every year for the last 16 years to K,zoo and was disappointed with the attendance last year.

Been to Frankenmuth almost every year and had a great show.

Actually, I thought the same thing about the asphalt... will be very hot. Personally, I liked sitting under the registration area while my husband walked the cow pasture. C

    Hey Jim,

Don't plan on putting any stakes in the asphalt with your EZ UP. Words already out that the tent Police ain't gonna allow any kind of stake driven into the asphalt. That's what I heard...I'm just saying. Oh yeah...No Beer either. I asked some of the Shades guys in the booth at Knoxville and they said they lost the lease on the pasture.

It really pissed me off when Frankenmuth and Kalamazoo started being on the same weekend. To accomodate I went to Frankenmuth Friday night then got up early Saturday morning and headed for Kalamazoo...........making for a pretty stressful weekend. WELL............. for this year we have a solution. Our minor league baseball team made the playoffs and the first game is that Friday night. As a result both kalamazoo AND Frankenmuth can take a flying f**k at a rolling donut.............we're going to the ballpark. The older I get the more independent I'm becoming from this whole car event deal. Throwing an overnight bag in the '32 and heading out with no particular destination, enjoying the drive to where ever the road leads is more appealing. Everyone have fun that weekend...........maybe I'll rejoin you when the prostreet Yugo is finished. I like to fit in so it scheduled for flat black and red wheels.

A friend of mine knows I have a weakness for BRUNETTES with long hair ... and sent me the photo. :D

That's my excuse ... and I am sticking to it :)

Most of the ones who have responded to this thread ... seem to be going to the event CLOSEST to them ... I do not think I would go to Kalmazoo anyway even IF I was within a few hundred miles. I have np plans to attend Nats South in2011 or beyond either .

yeah i know but dang that door was wide open, and i KNOW she won't let it go. i ain't to happy about the parking lotmyself but i'll give it a try.at least once.

  23. Denise, you know I love ya.....but how many times have you been to the Shades? And when was it?
    No contest?......:(
Kinda like your dislike for the Frog Follies.....all cause you couldn't find a good place to park the one time you went.
Ain't baggin on ya, hon.....just kinda sayin listen to yourself.;):)

Shades...used to be some of the FINEST cars in the country show up there. I quit it for several reasons.....the blatant room rate rape from the hotels....the increasing traffic....the unfriendliness of the local law enforcement:)mad:)....and finally(and least of all) because they opened it up to post 48 stuff. Still, it's a good event. And I was an attendee from back in the late 70s when it was the Gatlinburg outlaw run.
Just my two.......back under my rock

  24. That's probably a big part of why it was the Outlaw Run.... ;)

My comment had nothing to do with room rates, type of cars in attendance, traffic, law, nothing. My comment was regarding the difference in LOCATION. One is now held on an asphalt parking lot and the other is held at a park with trees and grass. In fact we have TWO large car events in Michigan that weekend to choose from..... both in park like settings with lots of grass and trees and usually 3,000 each.

Personally I would love to visit that area again and see a bunch of friends that I don't see too often but sitting in an asphalt parking lot for a weekend is not my cup of tea. It's the main reason I've never been to Lead East and why I don't hit a few of the other traditional events here in the midwest. Parking lots during the day aren't my bag.

GG Bowling Green held at Beech Bend is right up my alley....trees, grass, covered stands to watch the racing AND held in Oct..... we won't die from the humidity.;)

I think I'll try the Zoo as I haven't been there for a few years and I've not been on a road trip yet this summer. Also it's a pleasant drive Thur pretty country.

  27. Gotcha;) Hope you didn't take offense to my blather:eek:. Your opinion carries a lot of weight with lots of folks---I didn't want to see the Shades get a black eye for the wrong reason.

    xoxoxoxo back at ya ;)

I concur with your sentiments. I am looking forward to your reaction to the new venue for the HCPU. Not to change the subject.

I vending for probably the last time at the zoo. Wasn't that great last year but I thought I would give it one last try. Now with another show in the area that draws 3 times as many cars it's a no brainer. The problem with NSRA is that in order to get an inside spot at the zoo you have to sign up and give them money in Dec., if you hiccup there is someone else waiting for your spot.
