nope. works great in a roadster frame...i use it all the time in my stuff with proper weather stripping and glue.

  3. No, but it is illegal in CA for a windshield
CA Vehicle code 26701<!-- #EndEditable -->. <!-- #BeginEditable "section_content" -->(a) No person shall sell, offer for sale, or operate any motor vehicle, except a motorcycle, manufactured after January 1, 1936, unless it is equipped with safety glazing material wherever glazing materials are used in interior partitions, doors, windows, windshields, auxiliary wind deflectors or openings in the roof.
535<!-- #EndEditable -->. <!-- #BeginEditable "section_content" -->Safety glazing material is any glazing material so constructed, treated, or combined with other materials as to reduce, in comparison with ordinary sheet, plate, or floatglass, the likelihood of injury to persons by glazing material whether it may be broken or unbroken.<!-- #EndEditable --> Lexan, Plexiglass etc are not safety GLazing Materials<!-- #EndEditable -->

  4. Aside from the legal aspect,if it is a flat piece of glass it will likely be more expensive for a sheet of 1/4" OPTICAL GRADE Lexan than a piece of laminated safety glass. The last time I bought a piece big enough to make a roll up window for my Safari it cost $38 cut to fit and installed on my rail.

Unless you have already been to the CHP or this car was already titled and tagged in this state.

THe Lexan is not going to happen. Then get signed off.

Yea, but lexan is fun to play with. Take about 3 pieces and clamp them together, a .45 full metal jacket won't go through it at 25-30 feet.

a bullet wont but a big rock at 60 will flex it enough the whole windshield will pop out of the frame and punch you in the face.

I deal with lexan all the time, and my opinion about folks using it for a windshield on a street car,, well I dont want to piss any "experts" off.

Hey Tinman, I'm not supporting the idea of useing it for a windshield either. Never on my car. Just saying it has it's place.

if its not a deep scratch you can polish it out if thats the way you wanna go, here in NC lexan is pretty cheap. it does scratch very easy but i understand about the custom glass thing...its REALLY expensive here in NC. i wouldn't even know where to go to get it. lexan is either my quick option or last resort.

  18. My .500 Smith & Wesson will make that lexan wish it wasn't born:D Just sayin

I'm only going to run with 2 working brakes on the car, its only to get it on the road so I can save up to fix the other 2.

I'm gonna run these 40 year old bald tires, its just to get it on the road so I can save up to buy new ones.

    Get the point?

wait till you try driving at night with lexan, it may be opticly clear during the day by street lights & on coming lights are refracted & bent causing a glare thats very hard to see through. not a good choice, is your life worth the price of being that cheap?

Have fun trying to form 1/4 inch Lexan to the curve you need.
It is only legal in off highway vehicles and yes it scratches easily. I worked for Generous Electric Plastcs for 36 years. Many of those years processing Lexan. Great stuff in the right applications. But NOT windshields.

all the vagabonds guys are right. i dont see a problem with it in race cars or small windshield roadsters like mine, the stuff has its place and works well for a while. but yours is curved and would not only look better but be legal in your state. your prob gonna run wipers over it and clean your car from time to time so it will DEF scratch sooner or later. yes custom windshields are very expensive but its worth it man just to shell out the money and get your shit legal and looking right. this is a expensive hobby and some times you cant cheap ass your way out all the time specially when it comes to safety. flat glass is cheap, curved glass aint, and custom curved windshields def aint....but its worth it.

besides if you ever had a rock hit your lexan windshield it wont break but it will scare the living shit out of you when you see it flex towards your face!!! hahahaha
