Ok, I did the search thing and couldn't find much on custom air cleaners, home made air cleaners. If some one has pictures of some cleaners that are out off the ordinary it sure would help. I wanted something besides hubcaps or stacked filters. Maybe ones made out of old parts or lamp parts or maybe lunch boxes or old oil cans. I have all kinds of ideas but my mind makes them look rat r--ish and thats no good. I did find one made out of an old cycle tank that looked real nice but there were several that looked like they were put together by a 5 yr old.
I have been looking for the same thing. I found an old oil bath I thought of converting to use a paper filter.
Geeeez, I have done 2 how-to's on making your own air cleaner. One for side draft corvette carbs, the other to do a differetn looking one for a 2 bbl on my 61 Dodge. You didn't find any?
This one should be more accessible...for the 2 bbl Dodge, can be scaled up for a 4 bbl, though! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=128921
I have some in the prototype phase, deep fins to match our fuel block offs. I love to see ideas flowing especially on those one up pieces. Cool stuff! Dashman's Hot Rod & Speed Parts www.dashman.net
I think the reason that you don't see off the wall stuff used as air cleaner shells here is that all too often they have that trying too hard to be a rr thing going. But most anything would beat the matching model car sitting on top of the air cleaner thing that the street rodders seem to have made a fad out of in the PNW. They take up less space than crybaby dolls I guess. The hammered or molded them out my self air cleaners may look a bit too street roddy to a lot of the guys on here although no doubt some have had ideas in the back of their heads on what it would take to make a one off unit for their cars. A couple of real nice examples there Lawman and Pete1. Both of those look right on them money and look proper on the cars. But they are still different enough from the norm to be noticed right off.
Really? What about these: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=231652 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=210468 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=367316 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86722
Attached are some pictures of a cover I made to fit over one of the after market air filters for a Model A. It helps keep the filter cleaner.
cheap, easy and a great tongue in cheek answer to covering up a small block chev motor..... a toilet seat.... see pix
I have given some thought to making my own air cleaner out of a couple random items. 1st example would be cheap stamped steel SBC valve cover (for multiple 2bbl carbs). 2nd example would be a "g***er/surfer" inspired air cleaner made out of a cheap used motorcycle gas tank. I haven't started either of these "projects" yet, as I am busy with other projects. If anyone wants to use those ideas, feel free they aren't patented .
Another DITTO.....that's some rather large heat sink material. Knowing the supplier would be great. Roger
Some said my k&n filter was too tall, but I'm trying to fill up some dead space on a deuce build. Its either this or a set of tall webers!!
