I'm bummed that it happened but i have faith in El Polacko and Miles to take it to the next level. And not blingmobile status wither. Damn it boys get your ******* unbunched and give them a chance. As for the dash I'd like to see it make an auction. That would be cool. But then again what do I know I'm putting discs on the front of my roadster...
I have seen all these parts and the car is simply getting a body upgrade. The Roach Rod is cool but remember it is made from basically s**** metal. That is pieces that usually get ignored. The 27 that is going on it is a decent piece of original rusty ford tin. It would **** if was getting a fibergl*** t-bucket transplant but as it is I can only see it becoming a nicer car. And it is not as though the old body was cut into 4 pieces and thrown behind the shed. You boys are too sensitive....
One day someone will get to restore it back to "original", whatever that is...consider it a dynamic project and stop worrying about it. Otherwise, you shoulda bought it yourself.
OK! as long as it's in good hands. Dateline 2045... Rod, Custom 'n 'Ol Skool Tunerz Magazine Roach Rod sets record! Barrett-Jackson Auctioneers sold the recently restored "Roach Rod" for $10,000,000.00 to an investor in AZ. The bid exceeded by the sale early this year of the Honda Civic from the movie "The Fast and the Furious".
Fuel Pump, that is "Rich"! I recently saw your old 37. You know what that guy did, he had the goldanged nerve to repaint the flat black. Why, them young whipper snappers aint got no respect.
You whiny *****es sound exactly like the fellas in the 'resto' crowd when they see a Hot Rod. - 'My lord Ted, look at what those hudlums did to that poor 1932 Ford Coupe!'. - 'Gee, Bill, Henry Ford must be turning in his grave'. - 'That, Ted, is a sacrilege!'. - 'You bet, Bill, now come here you big hunk'. - 'Oh yes, that feels so good, Teddy'... - 'Yes! Yes! Give it to me, humph, humph...' Welll... er... The last lines may be creative writing... But you get the point... The Roach Rod is dead - Long live the Roach Rod!
Miles, ElP good luck with the updates, I'm sure you will do us proud as you have in the past. My name is on the dash along with many others, I am glad I had the opportunity to help and feel like I was involved, and will never forget it. That experience will stay with me regardless of the condition of a car. TZ
HAHAHAHA! Whoever bought the thing should be able to do what they want with it...it's not like it was even a FINISHED car. You wanna save pieces of "modern hot rod history"? Start buying them.
The Roach Rod ruled. Its sad to see it gone....and yes it is gone. Any way you slice it, the "new" car built from the old pieces probably won't have the imapct that the Roach Rod had.
How many of us would rather build a car rather than buy a finished one??? (most of us here.) How many of us buy a piece of junk or a car with the intentions of applying our ideas of what is traditional??? (most of us here) Would we of be as upset about this if it was finished and changed without our knowledge and the final product sat before us like Fuelpumps 37 color change?? Most would have said Rich's 37 didn't need any work or change. We all have to agree in our eyes most change is good. Otherwise this would be a board of old manufacturer original car loving grouches. Think about it............ Ok I'm done thinking .... I still hate to see it change in anyway.
That's not really the same. All he did was change the color (not even that drastically) and was meticulous about saving the flames and even recreating the pinstriping that was sanded off with the color change. And while I loved Rich's car (and I hope my coupe has the impact his had), it is not the icon that the Roach Rod was. (sorry Rich) I guess I am a ****, romantic, etc too. I also believe in ElPolacko too.
Where the Roach Rod ends up, and how many pieces it becomes doesn't matter. What matters is how the car was created and campained. I remember Sam finding the body panels during the 2000 RRT Haute Cusine tour. http://www.roddingroundtable.com/events/meetings/socal/troadster.html I remember Sam shaing his goal of a sub $1000 roadster. I remember Sam sharing his plans on how to reach that goal. Sam went on to share the development of the car and do***ented each step of the cars birth. I remember being enthused enough to contribute so that Sam could take the Roach to the Egorama, and thrilled at the coverage it received. The sharing of that cars experience, is more important than the car itself, and that experience can't be taken away it'll die with us. mike
Look. I don't really care about the drama of all this. I think it's a shame, but what can I do? I really want the dash out of that car. If anyone out there has the power to do this for me, please help... The HAMB deserves that dash for the future... a rebuild... something... or maybe Sam deserves that dash... PLEASE don't let that dash get painted over. I'll pay big money. I want that ****ing dash. If anyone out there can help, please do... Preserve some history here.
I couldn't agree more. A lot of our names are on that dash and that truly was a HAMB effort to get Sam funded for the trip. It would be a shame to see that lost. That's a piece of piece of HAMB history.
Funniest part of all this is most of us wouldn't think twice about whacking the top on a Deuce 3 window worth big bucks, and most would ***** about sticking an SBC in a rod when there's all those flatheads and nailheads, early Chryslers and Caddys out there saying "Pick Me"! This is what happens when a Rod becomes part of the family and gets it's own personality. It becomes more than a car, more like a friend or little brother, accepted warts and all. It's tough losing friends in this world. Look at what happened when Mr. Bones dissappeared. A lot of us were damned glad when he showed back up. He's a HAMBer in his own right and so, in a way, are the roach rod, the Rocky 33, Ryan's coupe, Big Olds, the Bleedster and a bunch of others. Few have had the impact of the Roach Rod on the HAMB. I'm with Ryan, preserve that dash please. I'd kick in what I could to help him buy it if it's for sale.
I wasn't around here when the car was built, but I know how much it embodies the HAMB in some members eyes. Its sad to see it in peices, & I hope Sam is OK with it all. He sold it, so its the new owners say. But the Roach Rod is gone. Parts of it will be used in other projects obviously, but the real deal is history. Sorry to see it go & best of luck to the new owners of the remnants of a truly HAMB historical hot rod. Wish I coulda saw it in person.
As long as the dash remains, whats the big deal? Times change, people change, cars change. If all of you wanted it to remain that way you would have bought it and buried the thing in a time capsule. The dash is what makes that car so dear to fellow hambers. If it makes an appearance on a new car and retains the signatures isn't that cool in its own right?
theres a big difference between the "real deal" and a photocopy... that car changed alot of peoples minds about building a hot rod on the cheap, during the same time... the rocky 33 was another that changed minds (it changed mine)... killer was ripping **** up too kicking out rods like pancakes... spank was chopping lincolns and building intakes...eyeball and his T roadster, germ had the corner on the market on women and pabst and his lincoln powered sedan... it represents fun memories on this board... it gave alot of people courage to build a budget rod- It changed my mind. It embodies what alot of the hobby lost... thats why its a big deal to so many hambers. I think it ****ing ****S. Tuck
Big words coming from a newbie. If you've been here for any length of time you would familiar with the quality of work that El Polacko is capable of. I have no doubt it will be outstanding, and driven....
There's no doubt the car is part of the HAMB and always will be. Seeing as none of us have any influence on what happens with the car in the near future, we may as well look on the bright side and try and influence the owners to retain certain aspects, especially the dash. Its got the blood sweat and tears of the hamb written all over it. So did the car, but what's done is done and I agree its a shame. Knowing how important that car is to everyone will most likely influence the current owners in their decisions and we can only hope for the best. I'm one of the biggest pessimists around. Just trying to look on the bright side...
