" Best lessons learned from the HAMB?"

I have learned that I am not really the last living soul who:

    Was there, when that happened

Earned the lesson of why we do it this way

Can not possibly learn enough from those who were there before us

Keeps my ears open and mouth shut (well, didn't learn that here but many should)

Doesn't have enough money to buy it (gotta make it or it does not happen)

Wishes that he didn't sell that car

has a metal lathe and drill press in the living room and still gets laid

Has also lived a life full of regrets, terror, joy, loss and all ***orted adventures that so many poor *******s never experience

Is thankful for those who also live the life, who demonstrate their values by their actions and not by their words.

Just a couple of thoughts before I head out for a ride.

Much respect and thanks to all of you who have helped me keep the faith.

There is always something you should of done to your car instead of what you wanted.

I've learned that someone with no imagination will always say "It's your car, build it the way YOU want it!!" whenever someone ask for advice or opinions on a build.

I have learned that there are more definitions of Traditional then there are people on here, and the ones who have been at it the least amount of time seem to think their's is the one and only correct definition

  10. Just like in real life, you give respect- you get respect { well most of the time}. Not everyone like Motorcycles- doen't matter Harley, Indian, Vincent, Pope, whatever, NOT EVERYONE LIKES MOTORCYCLES. { for those keeping score- I am a Hotrodder and a biker }. and number 1 thing learned................YOU HAVE TO HAVE TOUGH SKIN TO PLAY ALONG, this is not the place for mamby pamby wishy washy sissies, if your feelings get hurt easily, and your the sensitive type, try knitting something traditional.

That some of the most amazing guys are out there doing amazing things in little garages and sheds all across the globe.

A guy named Jim Sibley can create a car out of thin air.

    Ryan is incredibly patient.

People will start threads for just about any reason.

There are some thin skinned people on the internet.

There are some really cool people on the Hamb.

I am poking fun here, but if you don't see it you would have to be blind.

The best lesson I have learned on the HAMB is that even with a limited amount of tools, work space, or what ever road block you can still make/build something amazing as long as you have the desire.

I've learned that there are an ***LOAD of lazy people out there that refuse to learn how to use the search function before asking questions.

This is a serious, and not a smart*** answer but, what I've learned on the hamb is how NOT to behave. There are some people here that come across as real ***holes and some of what they post is similar to stuff I used to say. Seeing how that sort of **** comes across has left me constantly making an effort to mind my manners and has changed my view on many things. Learned some cool car stuff also but learning not to be a ***** is more important.

    Good ones there.

I think the main thing I have learned is that there are a great number of guys who appreciate timeless cars and don't feel that they have to buy into the latest hot lick part, wheel or trend that comes down the pike to be one of the "cool guys".

We may argue what is traditional and what isn't. We may get a bit caught up in "period Correct" be it rod or custom. We may and will razz the guy who asks the same what should I do with my sbc to make it go question that 30 others have asked in the past six weeks. But then one more time we answer the question as repe***ive as it is.
We celebrate the unveiling of a newly finished or purchased rod or custom and we lament the sale of those we had in the past together. We celebrate and give congratulations when future rodders are born, engagements and marriages take place and personal milestones are p***ed. And all too often it seems we share the grief of one of our online friends when they loose someone they love.

And a lot of us could probably get a lot more done out in the shop or garage if we didn't spend so much time on here. That I have learned personally.

Never ask a high poster, 3000 or more to be a friend.
I'm not as much of an a$$hole as i thought.
Don't say you've never heard of a famous hot rod.
New female members get 10 times more welcomes and friend requests.
Even if you have been around and built hot rods for 30 years or more, if you're a FNG your opinion means s#@t!

  24. You sounded lonely so I sent you a freind request. :D:)

But seriously, some of you guys really focus on the negative. I have ran into very few folks from here that I did not get along with over a burger or a beer.

That and the talent pool out there is amazing.

If it's old, rare, and desireable it's probably in a barn on a one lane dirt road in the state you are currently living in minutes from your house for sale.

I've learned PBR is traditional & the drink of choice- just like back in the day.

    Ahhhhhhhh no it wasn't.

I've learned even though I've been playing with hot rods since the 50's, the younger generation knows more about tradition than I do.

But seriously- there's some real talent here hidden a****s't all the drama threads.

  30. LESSONS I'VE LEARNED FROM THE ILLUSTRIOUS H.A.M.B.:

#1 Use the FREAKIN' search function before you even THINK about posting (that's why I have so few posts, yet oodles of hours on the HAMB...)

#2 Don't use the term "Rat Rod" (unless you're bored and really want to get guys stroked up just to see what kind of flaming posts and many new different forms of sarcasm there are).

#3 Compared to damned near everybody on the HAMB, I don't know diddly S*%T about building a car!

#4 Have a thick skin and a warped sense of humor when reading any of the rapier wit-like replies to your bone headed questionS (see rule #1).

#5 If someone asks what the driveline angle is on your truck (T-5 install, anyone?), TELL 'EM!!!:D
