    Roy,
It will be one way or another. Owner wants me to get it out but have to cross another property and don't have that worked out yet.

    Geoff,
Doing good. Haven't done anything to the other Comets yet. Been working on the Fairlane. Made some progress on the bodywork.
This Comet was the last of the 3 Kendig drag cars (we got the other 2 in 08 with the Fairlane). It has been stored on a farm near here since 1988. The owner wants us to get it but not sure if he wants to sell it or have us build it for him.

    Roy,
They were raced in southern California in the very early 70's They were sponsored by the Kendig Carb Company that would later become the Predator carb. There were 3 64 Comets, a 65 Fairlane, and a Boss 302 powered Maverick. Would love to hear from anyone that remembers seeing them run.

This is the same car. First pic is around 1966 at Lions drag strip in California. Second is Aug 2010 in a field in Texas.

    Roy,
You might recognize one of the Kendig drivers, Dyno Don.

So from what I understand, this car is still sitting there? What is the status? For sale or is it going to be "restored" someday?

Ken;I would love to go back East with you guys!! I just need to stuff a badassed FE in my Comet so I can play with the N/SS guys!!! I guess they don't want us FAST small block guys to show them up!!!!Great in-car footage of Jay,he either red lit or broke out by his actions back at the trailer.I agree that the 64 Comet Alan found needs to be saved AND RACED!! ROY.

Yep Roy, they need to afraid of us little guys, eh??? I"m not thinking so!!

Had my dyno day today, with about fourteen pulls!! The little wonder treated me well, under the Vrbancic Brothers careful eyes, with a 384 H.P. pull !!! Mind you this is an 10.8-1 vintage AR headed 289(well actually 292 now!) Suprisingly, the peak horsepower maintained itself from 6,500, until 7,600, only losing seven H.P. at the top. This'll help in the shifting department, and may make me rethink the 4.30 gearset. But, I'm think 5-somethings on the street may be a bit "peaky"!!!!

I was quite amazed with this engine. It runs very cool, and very efficient as well. All the pulls only required 2.5 gallons of fuel.

    I"m happy, can you tell??!!

For now the car is still sitting there. I'm working on getting access to get it out. I have to cross another property and haven't gotten that worked out but I will. The cars owner (the man on the right in the first photo) is not sure what he wants to do with it at this time but needless to say it will be saved. I bought the other two Comets he had a couple years ago.

  22. Ha.ha. sounds like some "Rocky Mountain High' going on there. There's a red Fairlane waiting back east for you mountain men...:D

Dale;not bad for a street 289!!!!You meen 5.67s are too much for the street? You have to wing those baby motors to make HP!!! ROY.

  24. Wow, watched the vid of Jay going thru the gears over and over.

Apound, good luck and I hope you get that comet.

Roy, glad to hear your 289 is together and hope it runs hard. My spare motor is an old 289 that me and friends have had since 1981. I always shifted that motor over 8000rpm, even on the way to work.

I'm trying to come down to the Hot Reunion this year.

Roger;if you make it, be ready for a mob scene, the place is a ZOO!!!It is mostly a four day drunk fest to most,NO crowd control!! I will not take my Comet again to race!! They treat the A/FX cars like bastard step children even though the crowds love the cars! There are alot of great old drag cars and new cars that are built in the old school look.If you were thinking of taking your Comet I think it may be too late to enter and hotels may be booked!!I'm not trying to talk you out of going, just giving you a heads-up!!! ROY.

  26. If I go it will be to watch, I don't care much for NHRA national events anymore so thought this one might be cool with all the old cars.

Wow, what a great collection of Comet photos.

Here's my contribution. The photo (16x21) was given to me by Helen Sachs. I had the photo mounted and framed. My dad knew Helen and in '64 we attended the grand opening of her performance center in Downey, CA. Jack was there with the Comet. I didn't think to have him sign the photo.

This is my favorite race car. I understand it currently resides in Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum in Tennessee.

I have a question regarding exterior trim on 1964 Comets. At the bottom of the rear roof pillar some Comets have a horizontal trim piece about six inches in length. All 1964 Cyclones have this piece as well as all 1965 Comets.Other 1964 Comets don't have this trim piece. Is it model specific or date specific?

My '64 Caliente did not have these. When the car was blasted, there were no signs of any holes that were filled in this area. Hope that helps?
