guys, have any of you lowered the front of your trucks by removing leafs ? i got a 3 inch dropped axle on mine with one leaf removed, but want to go lower, and dont have the cash for lowered leafs at the moment. i was wondering what you guys have removed from your trucks ? getting ready to flip my rear, so im gonna have to drop the front too. leonard
On my 57 chev I pulled 4 leaves out of the front, took it for a test drive, came home and found it sitting directly on the bumpstops. Put 1 leaf back in. Rode like ****. Had about 1 inch travel. My current 55.2 I have left alone, it looks good standing proud as it does. devin
If you gonna pull them out to remove some leaves, you've already done the difficult part. Why not "reverse eye" them! There is a thread here in the H.A.M.B Tech Archives on how to DIY reverse eye springs with a bottle jack. Re-setting stock springs is cheap if you pull them yourself
thanks for the info guys. will probably go with removing 2 more leafs up front since i already have one removed, and im thinking if i need to take another, a 4th leaf, i will put them on TOP of the pack, just to try and stiffen it up, but still get the drop. leonard
I pulled 2 on each side of my '59. I was going to do 3, but there are 2 in the spring pack that don't have claps on them. You will need to bend over the clamps a little more after you get the leafs out. I used a small sledge. I was able to get another 1.5" drop (I have a 4" dropped axle) Also, since you are in the springs, it's a good time to install new liner material. I got a roll for $10 from LMC
cool tjet... 1.5 inches lower up front seems about what i will need. gotta look into that liner material. i heard it really helps. leonard
Here's the liner & where I got it http://www.truckandcarshop.com/trucks47_59/t47_093.html Just make sure you cup it down so it doesn't hold water
