to start this off, this was a great running 283 before my neighbor totaled the truck it was in. yes, it ran when we pulled it. that being said, i tore it down, as i am now using it for my 29 5 window coupe. just too check everything, has a forged crank, trw forged .030 over flat tops. honed the cylinders to clean them up, pulled the crank, all journals look great, just a slight amount of discoloration from sitting for 2 years (i am going to polish that out) i looked at #1 main there is 2 nicks in the bearing at the seam where both bearing halves come together,, no other wear on the bearing, also the thrust bearing is a lil dinged up on the rear main seal side thrust surface, also no abnormal wear on the surface where the journal rides. i plastguaged all bearings, they are all at .0018 (between .0015 and .002) i am going to replace all of the bearings, but im just confused as to what could have caused this. i tryed to take pics, but i cant get any too come out clear enough too see the issue area. this motor ran 38 to 45 psi oil pressure when i was running also. any insight would be greatly appreciated

What caused "what"? Sounds to me like everything you said is normal. If you're talking about a couple of 'nicks' on one bearing, happens all the time if the crank/block is not REALLY clean before ***embly. I'm talking hard brushes through all the oil p***ages, etc. (Not normally done by the way). Usually people just use the car wash, blow it out with air and put it together.......

They may have been put in there by the rebuilder..
maybe with not enough care when re-installing the pistons or installing the crank back in the engine.
if they havent reflected wear thru the rest of the half of bearing i wouldnt worry much, but than again, i cant see what your looking at so i really cant say with out seeing it or feeling it or both

    pictures?

As stated before not much to worry about. The nicks at the bearing halfs are basically a non contact area (meaning bearings are basiclly egg shaped). Like the saying goes if it isn't broken don't fix it. Just a basic inspection is all the engine needed it seems and not a full tear down. So lets hope thing don't go for the worse. Remember it takes alot to kill those engines.
