Wow....another one lost but not forgotten. If that's his car in the avatar(Old Green) it's a beauty that anyone would be proud to have. God bless him, I'm sure there's a place in hot rod heaven for him. R.I.P my friend see you soon.
Aman, not only is Old Green Jerry's car, but it runs mid 12s at the drags with a 324 Rocket. Pretty stout for a leadsled.
I've taken plenty of photo's at several shows... chatted with him online a couple of times... but never had the pleasure of meeting him personally! God Speed Brother Rocketeer!
Sorry to hear of your loss. His knowledge will continue to inspire others through his posts. Godspeed.
I was looking over some of Don's posts, he sure was one to offer a helping hand, and he sure knew his stuff, and about Oldsmobiles in particular, wow is right. Don_Wow will be missed here, but not nearly as much as he will be missed at home, I am sorry for your families loss and for the loss of your father as well. A tough summer indeed.
I didn't know Jerry personally but I learned many things from him here on the hamb. He will be missed greatly. RIP Jerry (Don_Wow).
I think I've read evry one of Don_Wow's posts and really enjoyed his knowledge and wit. I wondered why he didn't post much anymore. I guess we all know why now. R.I P. DON_WOW. You will be missed.
Sorry to hear of his p***ing. Don wow always seemed to be the go to guy for any obscure Olds problems.
Jerry was the kind of guy that when I let him know I was looking for an obscure Rocket engine part,he would put it in the mail thenext day to me without ever considering a price for it. He did that twice for me on a 324 I was building. He was a great guy and loved the Rockets. He was a wholesale oil distributor for Texaco products and got some cool information for me from the Texaco oil labs. I'm going to see if I can find an email he sent me about oil and post it here in tribute to his helpful nature. I can only imagine how he must have been to his family based on the way he helped strangers. Jerry will be missed by many....WOW!!
Here's a copy of a personal email from Jerry(Don WOW) on oil : HI MICK Just got off the phone with my teck rep with Texaco-Chevron to make sure I have my info correct. I have been using a texaco product since 1964 in all my cars and trucks ( gas and diesel ) called TEXACO URSA SUPER PLUS 15W40 and I've sold a ****load of it in the past 45 years. NEVER had an oil related failure in my stuff or any customers . I have 350 pounds of spring pressure on one of my engines with a flat tappet cam. My rep tells me the URSA STILL HAS 1300 PLUS OF ZINK ( ppm ) in there product cl*** CI-4 THAT is the same as is was years ago before everyone started pulling the zink out because of the rollor cams in the newer cars. He did't know what Rotella spects are now ,,but thought they were at around 900 to 1000 ppm of zink. Other people make good oil but I think nobody makes a better oil than URSA . The university of illinois run tests every year and URSA has always came out number one for detergency, dispersancy, wear protection, high temp stability, bearing corrosion protection and foam control . I hardly ever try to tell anyone about what oil is best because it starts a **** storm and different needs are reasons to use different oils,,, but when it comes to hyd oils ,,metal cutting,,and industrial uses I have learned a little in the 45 years messing in the slick stuff . Hell I've spilled more before breakfest than any one on the hamb has used in a lifetime LOL There you go ,you just got my rant for today LOL glad you found the rocker stand pins but ,,,I had them in a enevolpe ready to send your way.. see you later Mick Jerry RIP Jerry my friend!
i got to talk to jerry on a trans part i was looking for , he was very helpful, i hope other people can be as kind as he was, hope to see ya down the road jerry. rip.
RIP Jerry His knowledge will be missed. His posts should be archived in a tech section. The knowledge he retained and shared on the olds engines are something that should not be forgotten. I miss knowing I can't just send him a pm about a rocket. Rod, I am sorry for the loss of your brother and father. My condolences to your whole family. Mike
Condolences, Rod. I'm sorry to hear your family is going through such a tough patch. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family. R.I.P. Don
I find it difficult to properly express my feelings when we lose a loved one. All I can offer is my deepest condolences to the family and my prayers for him.
