Wow we had a pretty good turnout for our first August Nite Race,
Thanks to all that braved the bad weather in town and kept rollin to the good weather at the track. A Big Thanks to all our help - "DJ Nicky Flores" spinnin the tunes all night and his club "The Demons" - "Chip" "Need Louvers" handled the HAMB Hospitality Area and Minibike Drags Pit. The Luke Airforce Base boys handled the car show area. Meetin Jon Lundberg was a treat as well, My favorite part of the whole was watching my buddy Ron Olmstead spank all of his competition in the Minibike Drags and being able to present him with his HUGE trophy. :D Hope to post some pics soon, Hope you all had a good time........Spike

So my report was a bit late, and my photos are pretty crappy, but man what a good time! Spike and Mark, thank you! Pretty brave to keep a smile and happy face in the wake of awful monsoon weather and rain! The H.A.M.B. hospitality booth was pretty light this time, so I mostly amused myself by gathering all the mini bike guys together in one communal pit! I coundn't believe the reaction most people had at the sight of the minis. "What's that one, Cat 250". "What's that, Cat400". "What's that, Don't know". And so went the night! Nick had the musica dialed in ( Thank you sir for the Link Wray and Dick Dale!) Oh, and the sausages too! Sorry 'bout the grill being a bit slow, we'll fix that up next go 'round! So if ya missed it - YA MISSED IT! Don't make that same mistake in November!!! I need ideas to make the H.A.M.B. hospitality booth more than just a place to come and say hi to me though... I know I'm not that great a draw after a couple go rounds, ya know! So instead of it being about me kissing hands and shaking babies, what do you want to do with your H.A.M.B. hospitality booth? Games, fun, semi heavy drinking, pictures of friends looking like jackasses? What! Let me know...

Oh, hey Jeem just sent me a you tube video of the mini bike drags that borders on vintage psychedelic! I'm going to try to paste the link right here\/

    Victory is mine, it worked
Probably should add that Ron Olmstead won the mini bike races which were held 5 abreast, (he he, he said breast!) But many of us were laughing too hard to hold ourselves up at the time! That and he showed with a heavily modified race effort... Dubious to say the least!!!

Yes it was a blast (even though I blew up my 4 speed)! The weather was great once you got there. Can't wait until November! Thanks again for putting on such a great event.

Once again, the drags were a hoot. Mini bike races were fun to watch with Ron Olmstead rumbling across the terra on the mini bike equivalent of the doomsday machine and Chip finding out how I felt back in March riding his machine and seeing nothing but the hairy behinds of the rest of the field.

My car wasn't doing so well though, all my passes were pretty much a full second slower than they should have been and in the second round of eliminations it bogged badly at the line and nearly stalled. On the way home traveling at speed about a mile down Grand Ave. at 2:00am, the car back fired and the engine quit. I coasted to the intersection at 163rd Av where the was some light. My distributor had spun until the vacum advance biscuit hit the firewall but the distributor hold down was still tight, I could see where the hold down had caused a big gough where it clamps on the distributor housing. I removed the hold down completely and the dizzy still wouldn't move. A couple of good samaritains who had been spectating at the race stopped to help, we pushed the car on to the dirt and they gave me a ride home. Sunday morning I met a tow truck out there and got my machine home. Once at home, after a rather bouncy ride on the rollback truck, the dizzy now moved freely. I reset the timing and the car fired up and ran just fine. Something is definately amiss with the old Mallory Unilite for it to bind up enough to overcome the hold down like that. Looks like it's time for a new distributor.

^^^ about 3:15am I noticed ol' Thumper sitting in the dark. I came back around, gave a holler, and heard crickets. Glad to hear you both made it home safe Mike.
