"That's nothing. Try $850 for a BOLT for a Corvette shifter!!! Two years ago, on that scum auction site."

Yeah, it's all Ebay's fault that some people will spend ridiculous amounts of money on parts............

We are not all Corvette people, but nobody wants to see parts stolen. Could you post a photo of what these caps look like? Economy being what it is I hope Fall Carlisle and Hershey don't have these troubles.

Funny I never took a photo of our gas cap, lol, When Big john gets back I'll have him search the parts book for a photo of them - the gal with the 57 was mighty upset about her cap being lifted. The tents had no security cameras, might be a thought for upcoming show upgrades. One of the guys thinks he knows who did it, I hope he can find him today, altho try to prove it

Probably similar to a .75 bolt. Just has those special marks on it.

We had a stash of NOS 67 Barracuda window corner trim pieces at a swap three years ago. Someone managed to come by and take all of them with about four of us sitting there. I think they disappeared when we were packing up. Those little parts are made of unobtainium in NOS form. I'd sure like to find someone selling them so I can ask a bunch of questions and maybe lose my temper.

No matter whether we like or dislike Corvettes and the people who typically own them, it is just beyond despicable that someone did this, and it's even worse because the person responsible clearly knows cars and knows what is valuable and what isn't, and did it any way. As a fellow car guy he should recognize how it would feel if someone did the same to him. It's worse than the disrespect that non-car people may show, like the lady that opened her car door into the side of my '57 so hard I heard it from inside Starbucks (then said to me, "it's only an old car", right before I kicked a dent in her fender). It's just a total lack of respect and complete cowardice to steal someone's stuff like that. It happened at Lead East for a few years now, one year someone was jacking 57 Caddy caps, and another year Frank and Carol had a Moon tank stolen from their table. The "security" at events like these are a joke. Let's face it, when Edith the 75 year old security guard on her Jazzy scooter or golf cart sees some punk stealing stuff, what is she gonna do about it? Your stuff is as good as gone.

Glad to see you guys out enjoying your car and very cool to see a family tradition alive. Don't let the bastards get you down

Sorry to hear this crap is still happening, but it's almost everywhere, not just corvette shows.:(

I'll leave the Corvette bashing to those of you that seem to know it all.

  12. how about planting them in the front seat of your newer pick-up , s.u.v after a couple of stomps on there hands and heads. next strap on your seat belt, leaving them un-belted and drive fast then slam on the brakes, do it several if not more tymes so they bounce around of the dash . then when you feel o.k. stop and kick there ass out in the middle of a deserted country road and let em walk ,,, .. if they can home extera shots to the head may be needed to bring them up to speed......... dermott.:eek::eek:

buddy of mine ran caps on his rallys, those things were constantly stolen. The last set he had, he attached razorblades to the inside of the cap, just under the lip. Guys would come by, stomp on the snout to loosen them, then grab that lip and pull it off. He came out of a store once, and there was bloody finger prints and a cap laying on the ground. He saw the guy running off, so he jumped in his camaro, and took after him. Jumped a couple of speed bumps, caught up with him, got out and smacked him around a bit. The guy's fingers were sliced pretty good. The guy was some little weasel shithead, as expected.

I used to be all about revenge, but honestly, the kind of people who steal like that... life's already got them taken care of, karma wise.

carlisle and other large venues are the places most work for the sheer numbers of people that are there and the sellers are easily distracted. i was at the pate swap meet and had my son with me watching and someone still managed to take two of the original linkage clips from a j-2 set up that i had there for sale. positive i know the guys face that took them and i will see him again, hopefully by his self and in a dark area.... i hate a thief in the worst way. just venting hot rust

Who thinks this way? Thieves do, not your common honest people. One of my brothers has worked at our county jail for years, so he has seen scumbags like this come & go. A few years back my house was broken into twice and I know my POS felon neighbor {which I found out after the fact} did it, even though the police didn't find out who did it. Turns out my fatass theiving neighbor is in jail right now. The charge? Stealing.

It's just too bad that a car can't defend itself! There's just nothing worse than a lowlife thief!

This is the problem with having nice/desirable things-someone always wants to take it away! Obviously the person behind something like this has no respect for all the hard work , dedication and money behind this hobby. The mentality is, why work for something when it's easier to steal it or hold my hand out til I get what I want!

What's his insurance deductible? Maybe contact them to cover the cost of a new cap?

Sorry to hear of all the thieving going on! Maybe everybody needs to get together and rotating shifts to watch everybody's cars around your's?? CONSTANTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I'm glad my '67SS/RS Camaro's 350SS cap still has its aircraft cable theft deterrent(Sp?) device on it. May not stop a hardcore thief, but it will keep the lazy ones at bay.

Back again, I just remembered that when I was in ME school at MU here in town back in the early '70's, some as*hole opened up my hood and walked off with my '67SS/RS's stock chrome "package" oil filler tube cap. Right on the street in broad daylight!

Not happy at all back then.

I never did get a replacement for it??

It wasnt for a corvette, im almost positive it was for a yenko camaro. If I remember correctly, it had a strange/long collar on it? Not that you couldnt make a different bolt work.

I rattled this in me brain...

Get some repro's for the show and keep the og's for yourself.

Also: Someone had to see this happen.

There is a phenomenon known as the "bystander effect," -- People often hear cries for help and think someone else will call the authorities, or they don't know what to do and so do nothing.

    sad.

I had a swap spot at a Super Chevy Show in Baytown and had a handful of 1st Gen Camaro stuff left over, including a real nice set of NOS window felts for a std. interior. Whaleshit didn't manage to steal 'em all but did get 2 of them before I noticed. And not all Corvette guys pay stupid money for stuff. I've bought a lot of Corvette stuff on a budget, I refuse to pay the crazy prices some of these guys do.

Dang after that letter you Corvette guys just play to nice, the thief is going to laugh at that if anything.if this just gets you very aggravated, what does someone have to do to piss you off, In the future if you guys are going to come together as a unit form a security system among yourselves and if somebody messes with your cars beat the shit out of them and then ask them why they did it.

  28. Did I ever say it was egay's fault??? The people that pay ridiculous $$$ for a number-matching BOLT are to blame. Plus, egay's rules tend to suck, in any case.

And, yeah, it was for a Yenko Camaro, rather than a Corvette.
