September 28, 2008. Anybody going? Anybody been there in the past? I'm about 4 hours away and was wondering if it worth the trip. Comments appreciated. Thanks guys!

  2. As Summer ends and Fall begins it seems like there's so few car events happening...I'm curious about this event too and will keep an eye on this thread....I don't see much of anything on the Web about it so I have no idea but as the car hobby season seems to be winding down, I'm pretty hungry to get in all the events I can.

I never have understood why Michigan, which has so many car hobby folks, seems to have so few events in the Fall?!?!? I would think people would want to keep right on having fun right up until at least Thanksgiving because it's really nice up here in the Fall but...not much happens after the calender says September....which begs the question...

"Here in the upper midwest and ontario regions what car hobby events are left on the calender this year? "

I've never attended Carl's show but I've heard it's a nice time from so streetrod friends that go every year. Would I drive 4 hours for it? Problably not since I've never driven the one hour to it from my home. I'm driving three hours to attend the Ducktail Run in Gas City, In & the James Dean event in Farmont , IN about 6 miles apart from each other next weekend though.

The first Saturday in Oct is the Ididit open house which draws in upwards or 600-700 cars in 6 hours and the next day, Sunday, is a large car show on the campus of Washtnaw Community College in Ann Arbor.

The following weekend is the Hunnert Car Pileup in Morris, IL and in my opinion if you live within a 12 hours drive from there and you're into tradiational cars and you don't attend.....well I guess I'll just state that I can't understand that at all. ;)

The following weekend is the GG Bowling Green,KY event held at Beach Bend raceway. Simply the coolest venue on the plant when it comes to a GG ones, at least I hope they do it up as right there as the HRR does.

TONS of events still to do in the midwest.......heaven forbid you should have to leave the Metro Detroit area:rolleyes::D

Scholtz' show is a good one, it is diverse, but good nontheless. There are many cl***es if that's your thing and huge trophies. There are always a lot of fresh cars there and since Carl moved the show from July to Sept. the weather is usually great. It seemed every year it was in July it was the hottest weekend of the year. Also Carl is very approachable and interested in knowing what would make a better show. I believe about 1000 cars will be there. It's also a nice drive to Capac, even though it's only 28 miles from me. One thing to remember; you're four hours away and you heard about the show.

This is a surprisingly good-sized show for a small town, and seems to get bigger every year. I'd say approx. 2 football-fields of cars...but not tightly packed. Definitely a mix of various cars. Music. Food and refreshments available of course, by vendors. A small swap-meet area. Porta-potties. It's held at the local school at the north end of town. Capac is on Capac rd. north of I-69...about halfway between Flint and Port Huron. Take the Capac exit off of I-69, and hang a left on Capac rd. Go north through town. When you get close to the north end of town, you'll see an ice-cream shop, a pizza-place, and a couple of restauants on your right...on the east side of the road. Directly to your left will be the two streets to the west that'll get you down by the school. One will take you to the south side of the school/show and the other will get you to the north side. There are a couple of side-streets in case you want to change direction. You'll see...just follow signs and the traffic. I've noticed in years past, that there seems to be more parking for non-show-cars available on the north side. If you're not showing a car, you might find it easier to find parking on the main drag, and walk in, but chances are good that you'll find parking near the show also. Looks like we're gonna get some decent weather too...the wind and rain will be gone, and forecast is 60 degrees and some sun...bring your jacket. Here's a link for info on the show, and some other stuff going on over the weekend too. http://www.capacchamber.org/

I don't know how Denise can really make recommendations on a show that she's never been to, though I agree that a 4 hour drive might be a bit much for you, doozcoupe. It's not a huge show. Still, it's a nice show, and grows bigger every year. IMO, the more HAMBers and traditional hot rods we get out here, the better. I'm sure you'd enjoy it, and I look forward to seeing all of you that do decide to come up. See you Sunday! :) Rick

Funny that this thread resurfaced now, I ran into Carl Scholtz at a local show where I had my black primered Ford truck. Carl was p***ing out his flyers for the show and just had to show me the new "Rat Rod" catagory he added for this year......

What a joke!! I took a 1979 Chrysler Cordoba w/300 package and only 21,500 miles. The car was entered in the 1978-80 original cl***.
The car is pristine and is as it came from the factory/dealership, including the rustproofing installed at the dealer.
Everything works and it still has its original paint.
Well, the judge took less than three miniutes to look the car over. Never lifted up the engine hood, nor did he open the doors and look inside. I had the original sales do***ents and window sticker on the car but it appears to no avail.
All three cars that placed were GM!! It appears that the judge in this case is a GM guy. Well, I won't make this mistake again. Unless the show has manufacture specific division, I will not waste my time, or money again.
I have attached some pictures so you can be the judge.

    Dear Ricardo,

I hate to tell you this but this is the last place to show off a Cordoba, let alone complain about not getting a trophy.

I hear that DNA cleans up pretty well on Corinthian leather.

  16. 1350 Registered cars at Carl's show-very diverse collection and a lot of nice cars early and late model -very well organized it seemed.Weather was a little cool at times but overall-I thought it was a good day. Looks like the biggest event of the year in this small town and a lot of people came out to support it.
As for the guy with the 300-yep its a nice car-but if you're only going to car shows for the trophies:confused:-you're only going to disappoint yourself.

Well, let me say this. All the shows I've entered to date I have walked away with something. Now I know that many people think a Cordoba is "not a real car" but it was one of the most successful car lines in Chrysler's history. And if you keep in mind that they only produced 3,811 with this option, that makes this car pretty rare in comparison to most other marques. I guess it would not have upset me had the gentleman spent a little more time, and effort, to really review my car and if one of the three top honors were something other than GM products.

    Car show trophies mean nothing......

  19. trophies collect dust on the shelf and that's about all they are good for..I wish shows never gave out trophies there's always drama and always whiners, if you need a trophy there's numerous websites that sell them for $10 or so and will let you personalize it anyway you want to and this is a pre 1965 website
