I'm trying to find out about my friend's father who raced at Daytona in the early 1900's. His name was Joe or John Horan. His son John was my age and I remember at this time his Father was much older than the other kids father's in the neighborhood. At that time he lived in the Bx. N.Y.C. I think he died there. His son told me that he raced at the Daytona 500 on road and sand but they did not call it the Daytona 500 at that time. I did see a picture of him in the two man, fenderless car, hanging on the wall of his living room. He was supposed to have won one of those 500 races with an average speed of less than 80 mph. Thanks!

Wikipedia has this nice article on the early history of racing at Daytona.

    Good luck,
