    .

It's good to see others are making use of their early iron.

I too make good use of my (low mileage) '49 Merc 1/2 ton.

She's got 11 leafs per side and 7 leaf overloads to boot.

This load barely put it on the overloads.....

(- lights are bright because the engine is running.... note the emissions from the tail pipe (yes it is running)

With a 4:56 rear end ratio, we don't go anywhere fast but we do go everywhere.

And I figure trucks were made to be used for more than just Friday Night Cuzin

Thats a pretty neat old truck. I have 10 inches of main spring per side and each spring is 1/2 inch thick, plus another 5 of 1/2inch overloads.

    No shocks :)

I think im right around a 5.60 rearend ratio with 7.50-20 tires. Im wound out at 40.

  7. Glad to see you had the old gal out and rumbling down the River Road - I love that truck... and the story behind her (supreme barn find) is even better. I bet you got a few jealous stares coming thru T-town.

    Thats awesome

reminds me of the time I had my hudson pickup loaded up with building materials at home depot and some old guy came up to me and explained that I shouldn't be using MY truck for this sort of thing...I explained that it was a truck being used for things that it was intended for and if he didn't want it done he was welcome to buy it and let it sit in his garage. He shut his trap after that

It took that load to flex the springs enough to drop the rear 1 1/2"-2"? I bet it'd take a whole helluva lot more to move it even another inch.

I put 1.5 tons of woodstove pellets on my O/T dually crewcab and it lowered about 4".

The times when trucks were TRUCKS and men were MEN

When we removed the rear susp under the 33, I was amazed (ignorantly so) that the overide brackets were very worn which meant the 12" stack of leafs had been maxed out several times in the trucks looong career. Overloaded 1 1/2 ton with mechanical brakes, the mans model.

It's harvest time in central CA, and every old truck you can imagine is out of the barn and busy hauling g****s, peaches, plums, etc. It's kind of a time warp to see a line of old trucks all loaded up going down the road, one of my favorite times of the year.

Took another load in. Not as heavy, right around 1800 pounds. Still money in the pocket. Total trip is about 45 miles, and it burns 5.6 gallons. Right around 8 miles to the gallon.

I love seeing an old truck like that being used for it's intended purpose and not left to rot.

    Here's mine:

1959 International B-176. BD282/4spd/single speed rear, tops out around 60-65 running hard.

It was born a Boyer pumper/fire truck. It lived at the Washington WV DuPont plant all it's life indoors until somewhere in the last 10 years when the Shriners got ahold of it. Sadly they disposed of the original fire box. I got it for a song 2 years ago since it has a non-syncro trans and they didn't like driving it in the parades or something.

Dad and I have been doing some stuff like fixing the bed, modified running boards, removed rear platform (all saved though) and mirrors you can see out of it. He's already been using it to haul hay for his horses, so it's getting some actual use.

Under 2900 original miles and about 800 hours.

Coolest part? There's a photo taken in 1961 with my grandpa and the rest of the DuPont firemen standing by the truck. :)

A few years ago here I am watching a friend load earth into my 45 Chevy 2 ton flatbed. The tarp is only to cover the load not to protect the bedwood!
